X1 BMW Diesel - Failure of the airbag system possible cause?

Fault stored

Hi, I'm having a strange problem with my 2012 X1 BMW with diesel engine. It is somehow not running as usual and an airbag error is displayed. Could it be that the airbag system has failed? Do any of you have experience with this and can give me a garage visit tip on how they best solved the problem? Thank you in advance for your willingness to help.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2010 X3 BMW. Also had an error message. I went to my regular garage and the guys took care of it. It turned out that components of the airbag system were defective. Fortunately, the parts were under warranty, so it cost me 0 euros. Can you give me more information about your car? Mileage, service history, etc... Then I might be able to help you better.

Hi, thanks for your reply! My X1 now has 112590 km on the clock. I have been very diligent with all my servicing and have had no major problems so far. I will now visit my garage as soon as possible and have it checked. I also hope that it won't be too expensive. Thanks again for the tip!

Hi, I also had an issue with my old BMW 5 Series. In my case, the airbag system was also the culprit. I was also at a complete loss at the time and finally went to my trusted garage and just left it to the good guys there. They then discovered that something was wrong with the airbag system. Keep your fingers crossed that it gets fixed quickly and cheaply. And don't stress, most garages really know their stuff and can help you. Keep us posted on what you find out. So, good luck again and stay relaxed!

Hi there, thanks for sharing your experiences! Yes, of course, I'll keep you up to date. I'll contact my garage now. I'm a little less worried because you've had similar experiences. It's good to know that I'm not alone in this. Your advice is really invaluable. Thanks again you two :)

I have the same problem with my 2006 Seat Leon II 1P. Unfortunately, a full 1.5 liter water bottle rolled under the driver's seat while driving. The airbag light then came on. I tried to extinguish it several times, unfortunately without success. Are there plugs under the seat? Can anyone help me?

Yes, there are connectors under the seat for the seat belt tensioner and the seat occupancy sensor, which are part of the airbag system. It's possible that the water bottle may have dislodged or damaged these connectors. You can check these connectors to see if they are properly connected or damaged. If you're not comfortable doing this, I would recommend taking your car to a professional mechanic. Remember, issues with the airbag system can be safety critical.
