VW Virtus Multiple System & Radar Sensor Failures at 71k

My Virtus is acting up with multiple system failures and warning lights on the dash. The error memory shows issues, and I suspect the radar sensor might be failing since most driving assistance features stopped working. The car has 71431km on it and runs on gasoline. Has anyone dealt with similar sensor malfunction symptoms, and what was your repair experience? Really want to avoid another costly mechanic mistake.

Had a similar electronic issue with my Jetta last month. The collision avoidance system and other safety systems started failing, showing multiple warning lights. The radar sensor diagnostic revealed it was mainly dirt and debris buildup causing the malfunction. The fix required a professional calibration after thoroughly cleaning the front radar sensor area. Its not just about wiping the sensor, proper realignment and electronic recalibration are essential for these safety systems to work correctly. In your case, having multiple system failures points strongly toward a sensor malfunction rather than individual system issues. This was also my initial worry, but it turned out less severe than expected. Still, proper diagnosis is crucial since these safety systems are interconnected. My advice would be to have the radar sensor area inspected first before replacing any components. Often its environmental factors rather than complete sensor failure. The repair took about 3 hours at the dealership, including calibration time. Get it checked soon though, driving without proper collision avoidance systems increases safety risks, especially if youre used to having these assists active.

Thanks for sharing your Jetta experience with the sensor failure. Really useful info, especially about checking for debris first, my adaptive cruise and other features are acting exactly like you described. Quick question: do you remember the final cost for the calibration work? Also, has everything been working properly since the fix? My dealer quoted a steep price and Im trying to figure out if its in line with what others paid for similar electronic issues.

The calibration and cleaning service ended up being quite reasonable, just 45€ for diagnosing and fixing the dirty radar sensor. Since the service last month, all automotive sensors and driving assistance features have been working flawlessly. The adaptive cruise control, collision warning, and other safety systems are back to normal operation. Looking back, I was also worried about potentially high repair costs when multiple system failures appeared. But a thorough cleaning and proper calibration was all that was needed. No replacement parts required. If your dealer is quoting significantly more without first checking for debris interference, you might want to get a second opinion. A dirty or misaligned radar sensor often causes these electronic issues, and cleaning/calibration is much cheaper than component replacement. Keep in mind that regular maintenance of these sensors is important, even small debris buildups can trigger multiple system warnings. But with proper care, these advanced safety systems are quite reliable.

Just had my car checked today and wanted to update everyone. Turns out my radar sensor was indeed failing, not just dirty like some cases. The complete repair with parts and labor came to 780€, which was actually less than the initial quote. The mechanic showed me the corroded connections on the old sensor unit that were causing all those system failures. After replacing the faulty sensor and recalibrating the collision avoidance system, everything is working perfectly again. The adaptive cruise control kicked right back in during my drive home. The repair took about 4 hours total, mostly because they needed to run multiple system checks after the installation. While it wasnt cheap, at least all my safety systems are functioning properly now and I have peace of mind knowing the sensor failure was properly addressed. Definitely learned my lesson about getting these warning lights checked promptly, waiting could have led to more extensive damage to other connected systems.
