VW Transporter Power Windows Dead, Regulator Alert

My power windows stopped working completely on my 2016 VW Transporter (gas engine, 94687km). The car threw an error code when scanned. I suspect the window regulator might be faulty but had some questionable repairs at my last mechanic visit. Has anyone dealt with similar window issues on their Transporter? Looking for advice on common causes and reasonable repair costs before taking it back to a shop.

I experienced this exact issue with my 2019 VW Caravelle last winter. The power windows system completely failed, showing similar error codes. Initially suspected the window regulator, but diagnostic testing revealed the main power window switch module was defective. The window mechanism itself was fine, but the control module in the driver side door panel had failed. This is actually a common issue in this VW platform. The repair involved removing the door panel, replacing the complete switch assembly, and reprogramming the new unit to work with the vehicle systems. While less severe than a full window motor replacement, this automotive repair still required specialized diagnostic equipment and programming tools. The job took about 3 hours at the shop, including testing all windows after installation to ensure proper function. Key signs that point to a switch module failure rather than mechanical issues: All windows stopped working simultaneously, Error codes present in system, No mechanical noise when pressing switches, Power windows system completely unresponsive Consider having a certified shop diagnose the exact cause before replacing parts. They should specifically test the switch module since this is a known weak point in these models.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My power windows are now working perfectly after the repair. The window regulator motor and window switch module were both replaced on the driver side. I was wondering about the cost, could you share what you ended up paying for your repair? Since you had this done last winter, have you noticed any other electrical issues with the door panel or power windows? I am a bit concerned about potential future problems and want to make sure I watch out for early warning signs.

Really glad to help provide some insight. Since my winter repair, the power windows have worked flawlessly with no recurring issues. The faulty window regulator and control module replacement cost me 200€ total, which included parts and labor. This seems to be a standard rate for this type of window mechanism repair. The window motor and power windows system have been completely reliable since the fix. I have not experienced any electrical problems with the door panels or window controls. The car window functionality is back to normal, operating smoothly and quietly like it should. Just keep an ear out for any unusual sounds from the window mechanism when operating the controls. If you notice the windows moving slower than usual or hear grinding noises, that could indicate potential issues developing. But these problems are rare after a proper repair with quality parts.

Finally got this sorted out at a new mechanic who really knew what they were doing. The total repair came to 280€, a bit more than yours but still reasonable considering they had to replace both components. The window mechanism works perfectly now, smooth and quiet operation of all power windows. The shop was thorough and showed me exactly what was wrong with the old window control unit and motor. They even ran a full diagnostic scan afterward to make sure no other electrical problems were lurking in the door panel system. Really appreciate your advice about watching for warning signs. Been keeping an eye on things for the past few weeks and everything is working exactly as it should. Having reliable power windows again makes such a difference, no more worrying every time I need to use the drive-through!
