VW Touran Power Loss Linked to Throttle Sensor Issues

Thanks for sharing your experience with the throttle body replacement. The symptoms you described with the check engine light and power issues sound identical to what I experienced. Good to know its a known issue with VWs. Did you remember roughly what the repair cost came to? Also curious if youve had any response delay or other engine idling problems since the fix? My regular shop quoted quite high so trying to get a sense of fair pricing before committing to the repair.

Looking back, my repair invoice came to 265€ for fixing the accelerator pedal module defect, turns out the electronics inside were faulty. The throttle valve defect got sorted during the same visit, and honestly the car runs perfectly now. Since fixing the throttle body, engine idling is super smooth and throttle response is back to normal. No more check engine lights or limp mode issues. It was definitely worth getting it done properly at a certified shop that knew how to handle the electronic calibration. The price I paid seems pretty reasonable compared to some quotes out there, especially considering it solved all the drivability problems. Just make sure whoever does the work can properly reset and calibrate the system, that part is crucial for restoring proper fuel efficiency and performance.

Thanks for the advice. After getting multiple quotes, I finally got it fixed last week and wanted to share my experience. Found a certified VW specialist who diagnosed it properly with their scan tool. The throttle body was indeed failing, causing the engine to go into limp mode. Total repair came to 320€ including parts and labor. The fix took about 3 hours since they had to calibrate everything properly. Now the check engine light is gone and the car runs like new, no more sudden power loss or rough engine idling. They showed me the old throttle body and you could see the wear on the electronic components. Really glad I researched before going to my regular mechanic, who quoted almost double for the same repair. For anyone facing similar symptoms, definitely get a second opinion from a shop that specializes in VW electronics.

Had the same problem with a 2018 VW Tiguan. The symptoms match exactly what you describe, sudden power loss and check engine light, particularly noticeable during engine idling. The issue was indeed related to the electronic throttle body, which controls air intake and affects overall engine performance. When it started failing, the car went into limp mode as a safety measure. The throttle position sensor was sending incorrect signals to the ECU. The repair required complete throttle body replacement including recalibration of the new unit. This is not a DIY job since it needs specialized diagnostic equipment to properly sync with the engine management system. The job took about 2 hours at the shop. This is considered a serious repair since the throttle body is a critical component for proper engine function and fuel efficiency. Without fixing it, the car remains in a reduced power state and can potentially leave you stranded. Important: clearing the fault codes alone will not fix this, the underlying air flow issue needs proper diagnosis and repair to prevent recurrence.
