VW Taigo Seat Heater Failure: Common Fix Revealed

My VW Taigo from 2021 has issues with the seat heating system. The seat warmer doesnt heat up at all and the error memory shows a related fault code. I suspect a faulty seat heater but would like to hear from others who faced similar problems. Has anyone dealt with this before? What did the repair involve and how was your experience with fixing it? Looking for insights before heading to the workshop, especially regarding potential thermal sensor issues or complete heating repair requirements.

I had the exact same problem with my 2019 VW T-Cross. The seat heating stopped working completely and the thermal sensor was showing error codes. From my experience with car electrical systems, this is typically caused by a defective seat heating mat or damaged wiring in the seat cushion. In my case, the workshop confirmed the seat heater element had failed and needed replacement. The repair involved removing the seat cover and replacing the entire heating mat assembly. The temperature control unit was also tested but worked fine. Total repair cost was 390€ including parts and labor. Before you head to the workshop, could you share: Which seat is affected (driver/passenger)? Does the heating indicator light up when activated? Are you getting any specific error codes? Have you noticed any damage to the seat cushion? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced and whether you might be looking at a similar repair solution. A proper diagnosis is important since seat heating problems can stem from various components in the system. While my case needed a full heating mat replacement, yours might be different depending on these details.

Thanks for the info about the seat heater issues. Mine is actually the driver side seat, and yes, the indicator light comes on but no heat at all. Getting error code P0652 during diagnostics. Last service was at 125000km and everything else works perfectly. Just this heating element problem started about 2 weeks ago. The seat cushion looks fine with no visible damage, which makes me think it might be the internal wiring rather than external issues. Good to know about your experience with the heating mat replacement, helps to have a rough idea of potential repair costs. Will get it checked at the workshop next week and see if it needs similar heating repair work to what you described.

Thanks for those extra details about your seat heating problem. Your symptoms are nearly identical to what I experienced, especially the warning light behavior and error code. This really does point toward a faulty heating element in the seat cushion, just like my case. Since the seat cushion shows no external damage and the issue appeared suddenly, I am even more convinced you are dealing with the same internal wiring failure I had. The P0652 code typically indicates a circuit issue in the temperature control system, which matches my diagnosis. The heating repair on my T-Cross took about 3 hours since they had to carefully remove the seat cover to access the heating mat. Make sure the workshop checks the connection points as well, in my repair they found some minor corrosion at the wire terminals that they cleaned while doing the work. Based on our matching symptoms and that specific error code, you should expect a similar repair process and cost to what I paid. The seat warmer assembly is usually sold as a complete unit with the temperature control sensors included. Would be interested to hear what the workshop finds when you get it checked next week. These heating element failures seem to be somewhat common in our model years.

Thank you everyone for helping understand my seat heater situation better. I will definitely mention these findings during my workshop visit next week. The matching error code and similar symptoms give me more confidence about what to expect. Based on this information, I will ask them to specifically check the heating element and wiring connections when they diagnose the seat warmer system. Good to know about the potential corrosion check needed at the wire terminals too. Having a rough estimate of 3 hours work time and around 390€ for the repair helps with planning. Will make sure they do a thorough check of the thermal sensor and temperature control system while they have the seat apart. Will post an update after the workshop visit to share what they find and whether it matches these experiences with the heating repair. Thanks again for the detailed insights about tackling this specific seat heating problem.
