VW Taigo IAT Sensor Issue Causes Power Loss

Recently started having issues with my 2023 VW Taigo where the check engine light is on and the engine runs rough with noticeable power loss. The diagnostic scan showed an error code. Based on the symptoms, I suspect the intake air temperature sensor might be failing. Has anyone dealt with similar IAT sensor problems on their Taigo? Would like to know what the repair process looked like and if replacing the car sensor actually solved these symptoms. Looking to confirm my diagnosis before heading to the workshop. Any help in narrowing down the issue would be appreciated.

Having some experience working on VWs, I encountered a very similar issue with my 2021 VW T-Cross. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I experienced, rough running, power loss, and check engine light. The intake air temperature sensor was indeed the culprit. The temperature reading was inconsistent, causing the engine management system to run rich. Had it diagnosed and fixed at my regular workshop last month, total cost was 155€ including parts and labor. The repair process was straightforward: Diagnostic scan confirmed faulty temperature sensor, Removed old sensor from intake manifold, Installed new sensor, Cleared engine codes, Test drive to confirm fix After replacement, all engine issues cleared up immediately and performance returned to normal. The temperature sensor repair completely resolved the rough running and power loss. To provide more specific advice about your case, could you share: Current mileage on your Taigo, Exact error code from the diagnostic scan, When the symptoms first appeared, Any recent maintenance or repairs, Whether symptoms are constant or intermittent This information would help confirm if your situation matches what I experienced with my car sensor problem.

Thanks for sharing that experience. My Taigo has 93757km and just had its annual service last month. Can confirm my scan showed P0113 code. The symptoms started appearing gradually over the past week and are most noticeable during cold starts when the air temperature is low. The engine feels particularly rough for the first few minutes. Good to hear the IAT sensor replacement fixed similar engine issues in your case. The cost seems reasonable too. Will likely book it in for repair since the symptoms match and its a relatively simple fix. The air intake system on these engines is pretty reliable usually, so hopefully this is just a one-off sensor failure rather than indicating any bigger problems.

Great to hear back about your diagnostic results. The P0113 code on your Taigo definitely confirms what I suspected, it indicates a high circuit input from the intake air temperature sensor, which perfectly matches the symptoms described. My T-Cross showed identical behavior with the cold start issues. The engine management system was getting incorrect temperature readings, leading to poor fuel mixture especially during those critical first minutes. Since your mileage is similar to what mine was when the sensor failed (around 90000km), and considering the timing of symptoms after a service, this really validates the diagnosis. These air temperature sensors typically last 80000-100000km before showing issues. One tip from my repair experience: make sure the workshop checks the wiring harness connection when replacing the sensor. In my case, they found some minor corrosion on the contacts which they cleaned during installation, might be worth having them look at that while they are in there. The engine issues cleared up immediately after the repair, and Ive put about 15000km on the car since with no recurrence of the problem. A car diagnostic scan post-repair showed all systems working normally. If you want to minimize workshop time, you can locate the sensor yourself, its typically on the air intake tube between the air filter box and throttle body. This can help speed up the repair process.

Thank you everyone for the insights. After comparing my situation with similar cases and reviewing the car diagnostic results, I feel confident moving forward with the repair. The P0113 code and cold start symptoms seem to be textbook indicators of a faulty intake air temperature sensor. Based on my Taigos mileage of 93757km, its right in that typical 80000-100000km failure range mentioned. Will schedule the sensor replacement soon and make sure they inspect the wiring connections during the repair. The 155€ cost estimate seems fair for parts and labor. Really helpful to know this fixed the exact same symptoms in other VW models. Nice to have confirmation before heading to the workshop. Will update the thread after the repair to let others know if replacing the temperature sensor resolves the rough running and power loss issues.
