VW Taigo ABS Fault: Bad Lateral Acceleration Sensor

Thanks for sharing that experience. My last service was at 75000km, about 2 months ago. After discussing my issue with a few mechanics, I should mention the problem started immediately after hitting a deep pothole. The steering angle sensor and wheel alignment definitely feel off since then. The traction control system becomes erratic especially during cornering, and the electronic stability program warning light now joins the ABS light. This matches what you described about multiple systems being affected through the control unit. Given your repair cost breakdown and similar symptoms, this gives me a good baseline for what to expect. Though hoping my impact-related issue might be simpler than a full control unit replacement.

Having gone through almost identical stability control issues on my T-Cross, the pothole impact adds important context to your situation. The sudden shock could have affected multiple components beyond just the lateral acceleration sensor we initially discussed. From my repair experience and the additional symptoms you describe, this points more toward a combined sensor misalignment rather than a complete control unit failure like I had. The erratic traction control during cornering and the electronic stability warning typically indicate that the yaw rate sensor and steering angle sensor lost their calibration points from the impact. My repair involved replacing the entire unit because the issue developed gradually without physical damage. Your case sounds more like it needs: Sensor realignment and recalibration, Possible individual sensor replacement, Diagnostic scan to clear stored error codes, Complete wheel alignment This should cost significantly less than the 1000€ I paid for the full control unit replacement. Based on the impact damage scenario, expect around 400-500€ for sensor-focused repairs. The safety warning lights and stability issues need addressing soon though, compromised ABS and traction systems create serious safety risks, especially in challenging driving conditions.

Thanks for the detailed analysis everyone. After getting it checked at the workshop today, you were right about it being impact-related sensor issues rather than a full control unit problem. The steering angle sensor needed recalibration and they found minor damage to the lateral acceleration sensor mount from the pothole impact. The total repair came to 450€ including: New lateral acceleration sensor, Steering angle sensor recalibration, Full wheel alignment, System diagnostics and reset The traction control and stability systems are now working perfectly. The ABS warning light cleared after they reset everything. Really glad I didnt need the complete control unit replacement. The workshop confirmed the pothole damage caused the sensors to misalign and partially fail, which matches what was suggested here. Worth mentioning for others, they recommended getting any yaw rate and stability issues checked quickly after impact damage, as driving with compromised safety systems can be dangerous.

Similar issue occurred on my 2020 VW T-Cross with 1.0 TSI engine. Having some experience with electronic stability systems, I initially thought it was just a sensor calibration issue. The symptoms matched exactly, ABS light, stability control problems, and yaw rate sensor warnings. The workshop diagnostic revealed a defective control unit that was affecting multiple systems, including the lateral sensor inputs and electronic control modules. Total repair cost was 1000€, which included: Complete control unit replacement, System reprogramming, Full calibration of sensors, Testing of ABS and stability systems The repair took about 2 days but fixed all issues completely. No problems since then with any of the safety systems. To provide more specific advice for your case: What engine variant does your Taigo have? Have you noticed any other warning lights? Does the wheel alignment feel correct? Did the issue start suddenly or develop gradually? These details would help determine if your situation matches what I experienced and whether you might be looking at a similar repair path.
