VW T-Cross Cruise Control Failure After Recent Service

My cruise control suddenly stopped working and throws an error code. The car is a 2019 VW T-Cross gasoline with 40014km. Had some questionable work done at a mechanic recently, and now wondering if it could be related. Has anyone experienced similar cruise control issues? Im particularly interested in common causes, could it be a speed sensor or pedal switch problem? Looking for suggestions before taking it back to a shop.

I experienced a similar cruise control failure on my 2016 VW Tiguan 1.4 TSI. The issue turned out to be a faulty clock spring in the steering wheel, which affected multiple steering wheel functions. The symptoms matched exactly, sudden cruise control failure with error codes. After checking the speed sensor connections which were fine, the diagnostic revealed the clock spring was causing intermittent signal disruptions. This is a known weak point, particularly if someone has done previous work involving the steering wheel or airbag system. The clock spring carries important signals between the steering wheel controls and the main computer. When it fails, it can affect cruise control, horn, and airbag systems. The repair required removing the steering wheel and replacing the entire clock spring assembly. This is not a DIY job due to the airbag systems involved. The issue was serious enough to need immediate attention since it involved safety systems. Before heading to a shop, have them specifically check: Clock spring continuity, Speed sensor connections, Brake light switch functionality, Related fuse box connections Given your recent mechanical work, there might be a loose connection or disturbed wiring that caused this issue.

Thanks for sharing that experience with the clock spring. I faced something very similar in my VW T-Cross last summer. After the dashboard light came on and the cruise control stopped working, I also discovered it was related to the steering wheel wiring. Did you remember how much the repair ended up costing? Also wondering if youve had any other electrical gremlins pop up since getting it fixed? The throttle position sensor in mine started acting up a few months after, but Im not sure if it was related.

Had the fix done last month actually, the repair shop found a damaged cable connection near the steering wheel that was causing the cruise control issues. Total bill came to 95€ which covered diagnosing and fixing the faulty wiring connection. Much simpler than expected, no clock spring replacement needed after all. The cruise control has worked flawlessly since the repair. No other electrical problems or dashboard lights have appeared. Good thing too, since steering wheel electrical issues can sometimes cascade into other problems like speed sensor malfunctions or blown fuse situations. Your throttle position sensor issue sounds unrelated though. Those typically fail independently of steering wheel wiring problems. Might be worth having that checked separately if its still acting up. The key was finding a shop that properly diagnosed the root cause instead of just throwing parts at it. A loose or damaged wire connection is often overlooked when troubleshooting cruise control failures.

Thanks for the helpful responses. Quick update on my situation: I took the car to a different mechanic who specializes in VW electrical systems. They found a blown fuse connected to the cruise control system and a loose wire near the steering wheel that was causing intermittent connection issues. The entire repair only cost 120€ and took about an hour. Pretty relieved it wasnt the throttle position sensor or something more serious. The mechanic mentioned the previous repair work likely disturbed some wiring in the fuse box area, which caused the connection problem. Since the fix, the cruise control has been working perfectly. No more error codes or electrical issues. Definitely learned my lesson about choosing the right shop for electrical work, sometimes paying a bit more for a specialist is worth it to get the job done right the first time.
