Latest service was done at 47000km. Just an update on my audio system issue. The workshop determined it wasnt actually the FM signal or static noise causing problems, turns out the main control unit had a faulty circuit board. The car radio now works perfectly after they installed a refurbished unit and cleared all system codes. The repair cost 490€ but at least the audio is back to normal with clear reception and no more error messages on the display. The antenna ground connection and other components were all checked and confirmed to be in good condition. Good to finally have this sorted after dealing with that frustrating radio interference for weeks. Thanks for the earlier suggestions about checking the antenna system, it helped rule out those potential causes during diagnosis.

Thanks for the update on your Spacefox audio system repair. My case with the antenna booster and signal strength issues had similar symptoms but a different root cause. Your feedback about the faulty control unit is valuable info for troubleshooting these problems. The price difference makes sense, antenna-related repairs like in my case typically cost less than replacing the main control unit. The workshop did right by checking the antenna ground and signal amplifier components even though they werent the culprit. Always good to verify the entire signal path when dealing with audio system faults. Nice that you got a refurbished unit instead of a new one, thats usually a more cost-effective solution. Have you noticed if the radio reception is actually better now compared to before the problems started? Sometimes a failing control unit can cause gradually degrading performance before complete failure. These infotainment issues can be tricky to diagnose since poor signal, antenna problems, and control unit faults often show similar symptoms. Your case will help others distinguish between antenna-related and control unit problems.

I appreciate the thorough responses about the antenna problems. Regarding your question about reception quality, yes, the FM signal is actually much clearer now than it was even months before the system failed. Looking back, I noticed the audio quality had been slowly deteriorating but didnt connect it to a failing control unit at the time. The workshop explained that poor signal reception was just a symptom of the control board issues, not the root cause like we initially suspected. While checking the car radio system, they confirmed the antenna ground and all connections were solid. The 490€ investment was worth it since even basic functions like volume control and source switching work smoother now. For anyone facing similar symptoms with their VW audio system, dont immediately assume its an antenna problem when you have weak signal strength. Get the control unit properly tested first. Really glad I posted here as the discussion helped me understand the various potential causes, even though my case turned out different than expected. The systematic troubleshooting approach helped reach the correct diagnosis faster.

Having dealt with a similar issue on my 2011 VW CrossFox, I can share some relevant experience from working with car electronics. The symptoms match what I encountered, static noise and complete audio system failure. After some troubleshooting, it turned out the antenna ground connection had corroded, causing radio interference and system errors. The workshop found that the antenna booster unit itself was defective and needed replacement. The repair involved: Complete diagnosis of vehicle electronics, Replacing the faulty antenna and booster assembly, Clearing error codes from the system, Testing all audio functions Total cost was 255€ including parts and labor. Since the fix, the audio system has worked flawlessly with proper signal strength. To provide more specific advice for your case, could you share: Does the error message appear immediately at startup? Have you noticed any crackling sounds before the system failed? Are other vehicle electronics working normally? Do you park outdoors where the antenna is exposed to weather? These details would help determine if your issue matches the antenna problems I experienced or points to a different cause.
