Thanks for sharing your experience with the Fox steering column repair. My Lupo is showing those exact same symptoms, complete electronic steering adjustment failure and that dreaded check engine light. Really helpful to know it was mainly a wiring and connector issue in your case. Just curious, do you remember roughly what the final repair bill came to? Also, has everything been working properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other steering column quirks popping up? Trying to decide if I should bite the bullet and get it sorted now before it potentially gets worse.

Since getting the steering issue fixed at the mechanic, there have not been any problems with the electric adjustment system. The repair turned out cheaper than expected at 95€, mainly covering labor to trace and fix a faulty cable connection in the steering column. The mechanic found the mechanical fault was isolated to corroded wiring, not a major component failure. The car steering system has worked flawlessly for months now. Regular checks show no signs of moisture damage or electrical issues returning. Getting it fixed early was definitely the right call. These electric steering problems tend to get worse if left unattended. The repair cost was reasonable considering the complexity of accessing the steering column components. For reference, full steering column replacement would have cost significantly more, so catching the electrical fault early saved substantial repair costs. The warning lights cleared immediately after the fix, confirming it was just the wiring causing the system errors.

Thanks for the input. Finally got my Lupo checked out last week. The mechanic found similar issues, corroded wiring in the steering column that was causing the electronic adjustment to fail. Total repair came to 120€ including parts and labor. They had to remove the steering column cover to access and replace the damaged wiring harness. Took about 2 hours to complete. The mechanical fault turned out to be pretty straightforward once they got in there. Best part is the electronic steering controls are working perfectly now and the check engine light cleared right up. No more adjustment problems or warning lights. Really glad I didn't wait longer as the mechanic mentioned moisture could have caused more extensive damage to the column adjustment system over time. Think I got lucky catching it early before any major steering failure occurred. Will definitely keep a closer eye on the steering components during future services to prevent similar issues.

Had the same steering column adjustment issue on a 2007 VW Fox last winter. The complete failure of electric adjustment along with warning lights pointed to a wiring problem in the steering column mechanism. The diagnosis revealed corroded connectors between the adjustment motor and control module. While steering failure sounds scary, this specific electric adjustment problem was not a critical safety concern since the steering itself remained functional. The repair involved removing the steering column cover, replacing damaged wiring harness sections, and installing new electrical connectors. The mechanic also updated the control module software as part of the fix. Total repair time was about 3 hours. For older VW models, these steering column electrical issues are somewhat common due to moisture getting into the connectors over time. The key is catching it before corrosion spreads through the whole wiring system. Regular inspection of steering components during maintenance could help prevent complete failure. Worth fixing since proper column adjustment affects driving position and comfort. Left untreated, it can lead to more extensive steering column damage requiring full replacement.
