VW Crafter Oil Warning After Recent Service Visit

Looking for advice, oil pressure warning and check engine light came on in my 2011 VW Crafter diesel. The engine oil seems darker than usual after my last mechanic visit, despite having an oil change done just 2 weeks ago. Current mileage is 93375km. Could the new oil filter be faulty or is there possibly a more serious issue? Has anyone experienced something similar with their Crafter? Want to make sure I address this before it gets worse.

Had a similar situation with a 2014 VW Transporter TDI. The combination of oil pressure warning and check engine light often points to oil sludge buildup, which is a serious issue requiring immediate attention. When this happened, inspection revealed the engine oil had degraded unusually fast due to a partially blocked oil pickup tube. The dark oil despite recent oil change suggested contamination, possibly from extended maintenance intervals or low quality oil being used previously. The fix required: Complete engine oil system flush, New high-quality oil filter replacement, Fresh engine oil meeting VW specifications, Cleaning of oil passages and pickup tube, Computer diagnostic reset This type of oil-related problem can lead to major engine damage if ignored. The oil leak created by pressure buildup can also damage other components. Best to have it checked immediately before risking engine failure. Regular maintenance using correct grade oil and filters helps prevent these issues. Many diesel engines are sensitive to oil quality and maintenance schedules. Consider getting oil analysis done to check for metal particles that might indicate internal wear.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Going through something very similar with my Crafter now. The oil pressure warnings started about a month ago and my mechanic found substantial oil contamination despite regular maintenance. Your description matches my symptoms exactly. Planning to get the full oil system service you mentioned. Before I book it in, do you remember roughly what you paid for the complete fix? Also curious if youve had any recurring oil pressure issues since the repair was done? The engine oil looks concerning and I want to prevent any serious engine damage. Just trying to budget properly for whatever needs doing.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. Since having the complete oil system service done, my oil pressure has been perfect with no recurring issues. The dark engine oil and contamination problems cleared up completely once the maintenance was properly handled. The total cost came to 165€ for the full service, which included cleaning the oil passages, installing a new oil filter, and doing a complete engine oil flush to remove all the old contaminated oil. The price was worth it considering the potential cost of major engine repairs if left untreated. The fresh oil stays clean much longer now, and regular oil analysis shows no signs of metal particles or other contaminants. If your symptoms match what I experienced, getting this done should resolve your oil pressure warnings too. The key was addressing both the contamination and ensuring proper maintenance intervals going forward. Just make sure they use the correct grade oil and a quality filter for your specific engine. This preventive work is much cheaper than dealing with serious engine damage from oil sludge buildup later.

Appreciate all the helpful replies. Just wanted to update on what happened with my Crafter. Finally got it sorted at the shop yesterday. The mechanic found exactly what was described, heavy oil contamination and partial blockage in the oil system. The new oil filter from my previous service was actually fine, but they discovered sludge buildup was the real culprit. Total bill came to 190€ for a complete oil system flush, new oil filter, and premium engine oil. They also cleaned all the oil passages and reset the computer. The mechanic showed me the old contaminated oil they drained out, it was practically black and thick. Already noticed a huge difference. The oil pressure warning disappeared immediately and the check engine light cleared after the service. The engine feels smoother too. The fresh engine oil is maintaining its proper color now, nothing like the dark mess it was before. Definitely worth getting it fixed right away before risking any major engine damage. Going to stick to more frequent oil changes from now on and might try some oil additives the mechanic recommended for better protection.
