VW Crafter AC Compressor Repair Cost & Shop Advice

Looking for advice on AC compressor replacement. My AC unit stopped working completely and warning lights came up on the dash. Car wont blow cold air at all. Mechanic quoted a fortune but I had bad experiences with them before. Anyone dealt with similar AC system failures on a 2014 VW Crafter diesel (130000km)? Would appreciate hearing about repair costs and trusted repair shops. Want to know if I should get a second opinion on the automotive cooling system repair.

Had similar automotive cooling issues with my 2011 VW Transporter TDI. The AC compressor failed completely, triggering dashboard warnings and causing the air conditioning repair to become urgent. The main symptoms matched yours, no cold air and system warnings. Initial diagnosis revealed the AC unit issues went beyond just the compressor. The entire system needed proper inspection since a failed compressor can send metal debris through the lines. The auto AC repair required: Full AC compressor replacement, New dryer unit installation, System flush to remove contamination, Refrigerant recharge, Electronic control module reset This was a serious repair that took 2 days to complete properly. Getting multiple quotes is smart since the job involves several components. A specialist AC shop diagnosed the exact issue with proper testing equipment before starting work. Important: Make sure they check the entire system, not just the compressor. The debris from a failed AC compressor can damage other components if not addressed. A thorough system flush is crucial to prevent future failures. The complexity and labor time explain the high quote. Still, getting a second professional opinion from a shop specializing in automotive AC systems would be wise.

Thanks for sharing your Transporter experience. Really useful info and good to know about checking for debris throughout the system. My Crafter actually had a similar auto AC repair done about 4 months ago. Started with a small refrigerant leak that got worse over time. Been meaning to ask, what was your final repair cost? Mine was around 1200€ including parts and labor. Also curious if youve had any more car air conditioning problems since the fix? My AC is running fine now but always good to know what to watch out for.

Following the auto AC repair saga with my VW Transporter, wanted to update that the refrigerant compressor failure has been completely resolved. The mechanic found the air conditioning control unit was defective, which ended up being the root cause of the system breakdown. Total cost came to 980€ for the complete vehicle HVAC repair, including parts and labor. This covered the control unit replacement, system testing, and a fresh refrigerant charge. No refrigerant leak issues or other problems since the fix, and the cooling performance is back to factory specs. The car air conditioning has been running flawlessly for over a year now. Key maintenance tip: running the AC regularly, even in cooler months, helps keep the system lubricated and prevents seals from drying out. This can help avoid future compressor failures. Sounds like your repair cost was in the typical range for this type of work. Good that youre staying proactive about monitoring the system, catching small issues early usually prevents bigger problems down the road.

Thanks for the helpful advice. After getting a second opinion, I went with a specialist AC shop that really knew their stuff. The auto AC repair was definitely needed, they found metal debris from the failed compressor throughout the cooling system. The complete job included: New AC compressor installation, Full system flush and cleanup, Fresh auto refrigerant charge, Thorough testing Total came to 1350€ but worth every cent. The shop documented everything and showed me the damaged parts. Their detailed inspection revealed a refrigerant leak that would have caused problems again if not fixed properly. The car has been running perfectly for 2 months now. The cooling system works better than ever and all warning lights are gone. Really glad I got that second opinion and found a shop that specialized in automotive AC work. Going to follow the advice about regular AC use to keep everything properly lubricated.
