VW Caddy Rough Idle Points to Failed Engine Mount

Just wanted to update, had the car checked today at 148804km and it turned out the issue wasnt a failed mount after all. The mechanic found two issues: a dirty MAF sensor and a worn vacuum line. After cleaning the sensor and replacing the line, the rough idle and vibrations are completely gone. Cost breakdown was: Diagnostics: 45€, Vacuum line replacement: 35€, MAF sensor cleaning: 25€ Everything runs smooth now and the check engine light is off. Good lesson learned about not jumping to conclusions about motor mount problems just based on vibrations.

Thanks for the update, that outcome matches my experience exactly. When I had similar symptoms on my Golf, I also initially thought it was the mounting bracket causing issues, but it turned out to be sensor-related too. The MAF sensor being dirty is a common problem on these VW diesels. The vacuum line wear is also typical at that mileage, mine needed replacement around 150000km as well. The repair costs you mentioned are pretty reasonable compared to what replacing a motor mount or transmission mount would have cost. Its a good reminder that while excessive vibration can point to mount wear, often the culprit is something simpler like sensors or vacuum lines. In both our cases, what seemed like potential rubber mount failure was actually just maintenance items needing attention. Glad you got it sorted for a reasonable cost. Having gone through similar repairs, I can say keeping those vacuum lines and sensors clean will help prevent the rough idle from returning.

Thanks for the helpful advice. Really saved me from unnecessarily replacing engine mounts! Just to close out my experience in case others search for similar symptoms: Final diagnosis revealed a dirty MAF sensor and worn vacuum line were causing my rough idle issues, not a defective engine mount as I first suspected. Total repair cost was 105€ (45€ diagnostics, 35€ vacuum line, 25€ MAF cleaning). The car now runs perfectly smooth, no more concerning vibrations or check engine light. Good lesson learned about not immediately assuming motor mount failure when experiencing vibration problems. Sometimes its the simple things like sensors and vacuum lines that need attention. Really appreciate all the input about checking other potential causes before jumping to conclusions about rubber mount issues. Saved me from an unnecessary and expensive mount replacement job.

Having worked on a 2006 VW Golf diesel with similar symptoms, I can share my experience as someone with moderate DIY repair knowledge. Initially I also thought it was a failed mount causing the vibration issues and rough idle. However, after taking it to a workshop, they discovered it was actually a loose connector on the mass airflow sensor. The rubber mount was intact, but the electrical connection was causing the engine management system to receive incorrect readings. The repair was straightforward, they cleaned the connector, secured it properly, and cleared the error codes. Total cost was 95€ for diagnostics and repair. The vibrations and rough idle completely disappeared after fixing the connection. Before assuming its a mount failure, you might want to check: If the vibrations change with engine load, Whether the check engine light flickers, If there are any visible loose connections around sensor plugs Could you share: The specific error code stored, Whether symptoms change when the engine is warm vs cold, If you notice any unusual sounds along with the vibrations This would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if its actually a transmission mount or engine mount problem.
