VW Brake Booster Troubles: Pedal Feel & Warning Light Fix

Need advice, Anyone dealt with brake booster issues on VW? My 2009 VW Suran Spacefox (127000km, gasoline) is acting up. The brake pedal feels weak and spongy, plus theres a warning light on the dash. Already got an error code pointing to the brake booster pressure sensor. Last mechanic visit wasnt great, so wondering if anyone has experienced something similar? Main concern is the braking performance getting worse. Looking for input on repair costs and trustworthy fixes before heading to another shop.

Had a similar issue on my 2012 VW Golf TSI. The brake booster and pressure sensor problems started exactly like yours, soft pedal and dashboard warnings. The root cause was a combination of issues: incorrectly bled hydraulic brakes and a failing brake booster pressure sensor. These vehicle safety components work together, and when one fails, it affects the entire braking system. The repair required: Complete system diagnostic, Replacement parts included new brake booster pressure sensor, Professional brake system bleeding, Full system pressure test Critical to get this fixed properly, improper brake function is a serious safety concern. The first bleeding attempt at the garage failed because air remained trapped in the system. Required a second visit using specialized equipment to properly purge all air. A proper fix restored normal pedal feel and eliminated warning lights. The brake booster should provide consistent power assist, and any sponginess indicates trapped air or component failure. Would recommend finding a shop that specializes in VW brake systems, as proper diagnostic equipment is essential for this repair.

Thanks for sharing your Golf experience. Currently dealing with the same warning lights and soft pedal in my Spacefox, and your repair breakdown is super helpful. The diagnostic tools they used sound more thorough than what my mechanic tried. Quick question, do you remember roughly what the total repair cost was? Also, has everything stayed solid since the fix, or have you noticed any other brake performance issues popping up? Just want to make sure I budget properly and know what to expect when I take it in. My hydraulic brakes definitely need proper bleeding from someone who knows what they are doing.

Since my last post, I got the brake booster pressure sensor issue fully resolved. The total repair came to 90€, which mainly covered the proper bleeding of the brake system. The mechanic used specialized diagnostic tools to ensure all air was completely purged from the ABS system. The brake performance has been perfect for the past 6 months, no more warning lights or soft pedal feel. The vehicle safety systems are all working as designed now. The key was finding a shop with proper VW-specific equipment to handle the bleeding process correctly. My advice is to insist on a complete brake system diagnostic before any work begins. The replacement parts and labor costs can vary, but getting it done right the first time with proper equipment is crucial. Cutting corners on brake repairs usually leads to ongoing issues. The improved pedal feel and reliable braking was worth every cent spent. No brake-related problems have occurred since the proper repair was completed.

Thanks for the advice. Finally got my Spacefox sorted out. Took it to a new shop that actually had proper diagnostic tools for VW systems. Total bill came to 450€, more than expected but worth it for proper peace of mind. The mechanic found the brake booster was actually fine, but the pressure sensor was shot and there was air trapped in the ABS system. They did a full system diagnostic, replaced the faulty sensor, and performed a complete brake fluid flush using their specialized bleeding equipment. What a difference, brake pedal is firm again and all warning lights are gone. The vehicle safety systems are working perfectly now. Really glad I didnt try to cheap out on this repair. Having reliable brakes is worth the investment. Thanks again for steering me toward a shop with the right equipment. The proper diagnostic approach saved me from unnecessarily replacing the entire brake booster. Will definitely keep this place in mind for future repairs.
