VW Arteon Rough Run: Drift Comp Issue Suspected

Having serious trouble with my 2017 VW Arteon diesel. Engine runs rough and check engine light stays on. Mechanic mentioned something about drift compensation being off, but last repair shop experience left me skeptical. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Car has about 54000km on it. Looking for feedback before choosing where to take it for repairs.

Had similar issues with my 2014 VW Passat 2.0 TDI. The rough running and check engine light pointed to faulty fuel injection. After checking drift compensation values through diagnostic tools, it revealed injector wear causing uneven fuel delivery. The fuel injection system needed attention since the injectors were not atomizing diesel properly. This created both performance issues and increased fuel consumption. The repair required replacement of two injectors and a full system reset procedure to calibrate the new parts with the engine management system. This is considered a significant repair due to the precision required for modern diesel injection systems. Getting it fixed promptly is important as faulty injectors can lead to more severe engine damage and continued poor fuel economy. The airflow sensors were also tested during diagnosis since they work together with the injection system. The core issue was definitely the injectors though, confirmed by the drift compensation readings being well outside normal parameters. Worth noting that most shops need specialized diagnostic equipment to properly assess and repair modern diesel injection systems. Suggest finding a shop with proper diesel certification and experience with VW direct injection systems.

Thanks for the detailed feedback on the injector issue. Your diagnosis sounds spot on as my car sensors are showing similar symptoms, especially with the uneven running. After getting a few quotes, I am leaning towards having it repaired at a certified diesel specialist. Just curious, do you remember approximately how much you ended up paying for the injector replacement and system reset? Also, has the car been running smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other fuel economy issues? Their compensation adjustment procedure sounds similar to what my mechanic described, which gives me more confidence in their assessment.

Since my VW Passat repair, performance has been absolutely flawless. The compensation adjustment and reset procedure fixed the drift compensation issue completely. Total cost came to 515€ for replacing the defective injection valve, including labor and performance tuning to get everything properly calibrated. Fuel economy returned to normal immediately after the repair. The new injector works perfectly with the airflow sensors and engine management system. Having it done by a certified specialist was worth every cent, their diagnostic equipment caught all the fuel injection issues and made sure the system was properly reset. The rough running completely disappeared once they completed the repair. If your symptoms match what I experienced, getting it fixed sooner rather than later is smart to prevent any cascade of problems. Modern diesel engines need precise fuel delivery to run efficiently.

Really appreciate all the info. I took the car in yesterday to the certified diesel specialist. The diagnosis confirmed bad injectors like you experienced. Total repair came to 490€ including the system reset and all calibrations. The fuel injection system is working perfectly now, no more rough running or check engine light. Fuel economy has already improved noticeably on my drive home. The shop showed me the before and after compensation adjustment readings which proved how far off the original values were. The mechanics clearly knew what they were doing with the diagnostic equipment and system reset procedure. Glad I chose a specialist shop instead of the regular garage that could not properly diagnose the issue. The car runs like new again. Thanks for helping me make the right call on this repair.
