VW Arteon Fuel System Failure Symptoms and Fix Guide

Having serious trouble with my 2021 VW Arteon lately. The engine struggles to start, stalls when idling, and fuel consumption has gone way up. Check engine light is on and the car runs really rough. With 92486km on the clock, I suspect a fuel pump failure but got burned by a mechanic before. Has anyone dealt with similar fuel system problems on their Arteon? Looking for advice on reliable car mechanics who can properly diagnose and fix this gasoline delivery issue. Any tips on what to watch out for during repairs would be great too.

Had similar symptoms with my 2018 VW Passat. The automotive diagnosis revealed failing fuel pump connectors rather than a complete pump failure. The car mechanics found corroded terminals in the wiring harness connecting to the fuel pump assembly. The fuel system repair involved replacing the entire connector assembly and cleaning the contact points. While not as severe as a full pump replacement, leaving it unfixed could have led to more serious fuel delivery issues or complete pump burnout. Main signs pointing to connector problems: Intermittent starting issues, Engine cutting out at idle, Erratic fuel pressure readings, Similar check engine codes to pump failure During auto repair, make sure they: Test fuel pressure before and after fixing connections, Check all ground points, Verify proper voltage at the pump, Scan for related fuel system codes after repair, Test drive under various conditions The fix restored proper fuel delivery and resolved all symptoms. Have them document the electrical readings to confirm the repair addressed the root cause rather than just treating symptoms.

Thanks for sharing that detailed fix. Really helpful to know about the connector issue rather than a full fuel pump failure. Had my mechanic check mine last month for similar symptoms and it turned out to be a failing fuel injector instead. Quick question, do you remember roughly what you paid for the connector replacement? Also curious if you had any fuel system problems since the repair?

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. Since getting the fuel system repair done, everything has worked perfectly with no engine stalling or performance issues. The repair bill came to 95€ for fixing the faulty cable connection to the fuel pump, much cheaper than replacing the entire pump assembly. The mechanics did a thorough job testing the fuel system pressure and checking all connections after the fix. Car runs smooth now with no starting problems or rough idling like before. Really glad it turned out to be just a connection issue rather than complete pump failure. This kind of preventive repair likely saved me from more expensive fuel pump problems down the road. Hope your fuel injector fix resolved your issues too, these fuel delivery problems can be tricky to diagnose correctly the first time.

After several repair attempts, I finally got the car checked at a certified VW shop. They did a proper automotive diagnosis and found a faulty fuel injector causing the engine stalling and rough running. The auto repair cost me 680€ including parts and labor. The mechanic showed me the old injector which was clearly damaged. They also checked the entire fuel system and fuel pump while doing the repair. Car runs perfectly now, no more stalling, better fuel economy, and the check engine light is off. Looking back, getting a second opinion from a specialist was worth it. The proper diagnosis saved me from unnecessarily replacing the fuel pump. Been driving for 3 weeks since the fix with zero issues.
