VW Arteon Cruise Control System Dead, Quick Diagnosis

Just had my 15000km service done last week. For my issue, I checked and got error code P0571. The brake light switch seems fully functional and clicks normally. Other steering wheel controls work perfectly fine, only the cruise control buttons are completely dead. The problem appeared suddenly during highway driving when I tried to adjust the speed setting. Based on the testing steps suggested, I checked all fuses related to cruise control and they appear intact. This really seems to point toward a wiring or connection issue rather than a mechanical problem, since everything else in the steering wheel works as expected.

Based on the P0571 code and your symptoms, this does sound very similar to what I experienced with my Passat. The fact that it happened suddenly during speed adjustment matches my case exactly. While the brake light switch clicks normally, the P0571 often indicates a communication issue between the brake pedal switch and the cruise control module, not necessarily a mechanical switch failure. In my case, the wiring harness connector had developed a poor contact, causing intermittent communication issues. Since your other steering wheel functions work fine, we can likely rule out a clock spring issue. The dashboard light pattern is also different when the clock spring fails, you would typically see multiple system warnings. A few things to check before heading to the shop: Look for any visible damage to wiring under the dash near the pedal switch, Check if the speed sensor readings appear normal in your instrument cluster, Test if cruise control responds after disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes The repair should be relatively straightforward if its similar to my case. The technician will likely need to: 1. Test the brake pedal switch signals 2. Inspect wiring connections 3. Check speed sensor input 4. Possibly replace the connector or harness section Most VW shops can diagnose and repair this in 1-2 hours if its the same wiring issue I had.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions and sharing your experience. Did a quick check under the dash as recommended but couldnt spot any obvious wiring damage. The speed sensor readings on my dash seem completely normal during regular driving. I tried the battery disconnect reset for 10 minutes but unfortunately the cruise control is still unresponsive. Given all these symptoms match your case with the wiring harness issue, I will schedule an appointment to have them check the brake pedal switch signals and connection points you mentioned. The cruise control worked flawlessly up until this sudden failure, and everything else runs perfectly, so a wiring problem makes the most sense. Will update once the shop diagnoses the exact cause. Hoping its just a loose connection or damaged harness that can be fixed in a couple hours like in your case.

Had a similar issue on my 2021 VW Passat. With some experience working on VW electrical systems, I can share what happened in my case. The cruise control stopped working completely, and the steering wheel controls were unresponsive. After checking the basic components like fuses, my workshop found the issue was a faulty wiring connection between the steering wheel controls and the throttle position sensor. The repair involved: Testing all cruise control related connections, Replacing a damaged cable harness connector, Clearing the error codes, Calibrating the speed sensor system Total repair cost was 95€, mostly labor for diagnosing and fixing the connection issue. For your Arteon, would help to know: What error code is stored? Are other steering wheel controls still working? Did this happen suddenly or gradually? Does the pedal switch still click when pressing/releasing? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with the wiring connection problem or if it might be something else in the cruise control system.
