VW Amarok Parking Sensors Failed After Service Visit

My parking assistant stopped working on my 2010 VW Amarok (gas engine, 60397km). The error message keeps showing up on the display. After a recent visit to a mechanic for regular maintenance, I noticed this issue. Has anyone experienced similar problems with their parking sensors? Could this be related to faulty wiring or damaged radar sensors? Looking for recommendations before heading back to a repair shop.

Had a similar issue with my 2013 VW Tiguan. The parking assistant system suddenly failed, showing constant error messages. The problem turned out to be more than just faulty wiring, the ultrasonic sensors had corroded connections at the main harness plug. The proximity sensors needed thorough testing with specialized diagnostic equipment. While checking the blind spot sensors, we found that water had seeped into the connector housing, causing intermittent failures. The fix required replacing two damaged sensor connectors and resealing the entire connection point. This kind of issue typically appears after car washes or during rainy seasons when moisture penetrates the protective covering. Since your problem started after maintenance, its possible some connections were disturbed or not properly reseated during the service. The repair is fairly complex since it involves testing multiple sensor circuits and often requires partial bumper removal to access the connection points. Its best to have this addressed soon as faulty parking sensors can affect other driver assistance systems that share the same control module. Recommend having a certified technician perform a full diagnostic scan of the parking system before any parts replacement.

Thanks for sharing that detailed information about the sensor repairs. My issue turned out to be quite similar, corroded ultrasonic sensors were the main culprit. The rearview camera was still working fine, but the obstacle detection system was completely offline. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? Just wondering if I paid a fair price. Also curious if youve had any recurring issues with the parking assist system since getting it fixed? The repair definitely made a difference in my case, the parking sensors now work perfectly, especially when backing into tight spots.

Just got back from the mechanic last week actually, happy to share my experience. The parking aid fault was completely resolved and only cost 95€ total. Unlike your case with corroded ultrasonic sensors, my issue was simpler, just needed to repair a loose cable connection at the control module. The blind spot sensors and proximity sensors are all functioning perfectly now. Nothing beats having a properly working parking assist system, especially for those tricky parking situations. No recurring issues since the fix, the system performs exactly as it should. Sounds like you had to deal with more extensive repairs involving the sensor units themselves. The price variation makes sense since corrosion issues typically require more intensive work and possibly component replacement. At least both our parking systems are back to normal now.

Thanks for the input. After reading about similar experiences, I decided to return to my mechanic. It took them about 2 hours to diagnose and fix the issue. The control module had a loose connection and one of the parking sensors needed replacement due to water damage. The total repair came to 280€, this included the new sensor, labor, and a complete system diagnostic check. The blind spot sensors were also tested as part of the service since they connect to the same system. Everything works perfectly now. The parking assist gives clear signals, and there are no more error messages on the display. Really glad I got this sorted quickly before any other proximity sensors could be affected. Will definitely be more careful during car washes to prevent future water damage. Been using it for about two weeks now without any issues. Money well spent considering how much I rely on the parking assist features.
