Thanks for sharing your experience. Had exactly the same problem with my Amarok last month. The key fob battery replacement fixed everything and all keyless functions are working perfectly now. Did you end up sorting yours out? Would be helpful to know what you paid for the battery since prices seem to vary quite a bit between stores. Also curious if youve had any other key related issues pop up since the replacement.

Thanks for asking about the outcome. Yes, got it completely fixed, took it to the mechanic since I wasnt comfortable opening the electronic key myself. The low voltage warning disappeared right after they replaced the key battery, and all keyless functions are working perfectly now. The total cost was 37€ for parts and labor, which included programming the key fob to sync with the car system. Seems reasonable compared to what others paid. The mechanic mentioned these car key batteries typically need replacement every few years, so its a normal maintenance item. No other key related issues since the fix, the keyless access and all remote functions have been working flawlessly for the past couple months. If you notice your key battery getting weak again, its best to replace it before it completely dies to avoid getting locked out.

Thanks for the advice. Just want to share how it worked out. After seeing these responses, I went ahead and got it checked. The mechanic found the electronic key battery was indeed completely drained. The repair was quick, took about 20 minutes total. Cost me 42€ including the new battery and labor. Pretty reasonable considering I was worried it might be something more serious with the car's electronic system. The keyless access started working perfectly right after the battery replacement. All the remote functions are back to normal, and that annoying low battery warning on the dash has disappeared completely. Really relieved it was just a simple fix. Good lesson learned, will definitely replace the key battery sooner next time when those first warning signs show up. Much better than risking getting stuck somewhere with a dead key fob.

Had the same warning message in my 2020 VW Tiguan diesel. The electronic key started acting up first with inconsistent unlocking, then completely stopped working. The dashboard showed a key battery low alert. The issue was straightforward, just a depleted fob battery. These auto key batteries typically last 3-4 years with regular use. When voltage drops too low, the key functions become unreliable, especially the keyless access features which need more power than basic lock/unlock. Changed the CR2032 battery myself after checking the manual. Once replaced, all key functions returned to normal immediately. The warning message cleared after starting the car. This is generally not a serious issue requiring mechanic intervention. Most auto parts stores carry the correct key battery. Just make sure to follow proper battery orientation when installing and avoid touching the circuit board inside the fob. Worth noting, if replacing the battery doesnt solve it, there could be other issues like a faulty key circuit board or car receiver, but battery replacement fixes this problem 90% of the time.
