Troubleshooting overheating problems and engine indicator light on Golf VW 2017

I've noticed a few issues with my 2017 Golf VW with gasoline engine lately. The car seems to be overheating and the check engine light is on. I have a suspicion that maybe the coolant thermostat is not working properly, but I'm not sure. Does anyone here have any experience with this problem and can give me tips on how to narrow down the cause of the fault? Hey, I had exactly the same problem with my 2015 Golf VW! I don't have much experience yet, but get this. I took my car to the garage because the check engine light was on and the car seemed to be overheating. The problem was a fault with the map thermostat - sounds fancy, I know. Anyway, the guys at the garage replaced it for me. It cost me 350 euros, but then everything was fine again. From the sound of it, it could be the same problem with your car. But of course you can't say for sure without more information. What kind of engine do you have? And how many kilometers has your Golf done? Maybe then I could help you more precisely.

Hey, on my Golf 2016, also with a gasoline engine, it was actually exactly the same problem as yours. Overheating and the engine indicator light on, not a nice feeling if you ask me. Of course, I went straight to the garage and the coolant thermostat was replaced. At the time, it had about as many kilometers on it as yours does now. The repair didn't take very long for me, the guys in the workshop were really quick. I think it took about two hours and then I was able to pick up my car again. But it could also be that they need a bit more time in your case, depending on how busy the garage is at the moment. However, the 350 euros I had to pay were definitely worth it, as everything was back to normal afterwards. Better safe than sorry, right? So I would definitely recommend having it checked. Maybe it really is the coolant thermostat. Hope that helps you!
