Tiguan DPF Regen Failures Point to Sensor Problems

After 120905km and my latest service just 2 months ago, I can confirm encountering these exact issues. My diagnostic scan also pointed toward the exhaust back pressure sensor. I tried forcing manual regeneration cycles multiple times without success. The exhaust system symptoms persisted despite regular car maintenance, including DPF cleaning at the last service interval. The repair cost and approach mentioned sounds reasonable for resolving these emission control issues. Based on my engine performance now, a faulty sensor reading is very likely causing these problems. Before committing to repairs, I also had error codes P2453 and P242F which seem consistent with a failing pressure sensor in the exhaust system. Has anyone else successfully resolved these symptoms with just a sensor replacement, or should I prepare for more extensive repairs?

Thanks for providing those additional details about your Tiguan TDI situation. The error codes P2453 and P242F definitely confirm our similar experiences with exhaust back pressure sensor issues. In my case, the sensor replacement alone solved the problems completely. The DPF regeneration cycles returned to normal and engine performance improved immediately after the repair. The smoke during acceleration cleared up within the first few drives. Since you mentioned having DPF cleaning done recently, this further supports that the sensor is likely the core issue affecting vehicle emissions. Your mileage is also very close to when I experienced these problems. A few key points from my repair experience: The workshop performed a full system check after sensor replacement, They reset all relevant engine control modules, Total repair time was about 3 hours, No additional exhaust system components needed replacement The diagnostic readings from my vehicle returned to normal ranges after the fix, and I have had no recurring issues with the DPF regeneration cycles in the 15000km since the repair. Based on the matching symptoms and error codes, I would recommend proceeding with the sensor replacement before considering more extensive repairs to the exhaust system.

Based on these replies and my situation with the Tiguan TDI, I will proceed with the pressure sensor replacement. The matching error codes and symptoms, especially with car maintenance already performed, make me confident this is the right approach for resolving these vehicle emissions issues. The fact that the other users exhaust system returned to normal function after sensor replacement is encouraging. My engine performance issues and failed regeneration attempts seem identical to their experience. I will schedule the repair soon and have the workshop perform the complete diagnostic verification afterward. The 245€ cost estimate helps with planning, though I will prepare for potential variations in labor rates. Would still appreciate hearing from others who have dealt with similar back pressure sensor problems in their diesel vehicles, particularly regarding long-term results after the repair.

Having dealt with similar symptoms on my VW Touareg TDI from 2016, I can share my experience with exhaust system troubles. I have some experience working on diesel engines, particularly with emission-related components. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I encountered, warning lights, smoke, and failed regeneration attempts. After running diagnostics, my exhaust back pressure sensor was indeed the culprit affecting engine performance. The faulty sensor was causing incorrect readings, preventing proper DPF regeneration cycles. Had it fixed at a workshop specializing in diesel engines. The repair included: Complete diagnostic scan, Pressure sensor replacement, System reset and forced DPF regeneration, Test drive to confirm proper function Total cost came to 245€, which included parts and labor. The repair resolved all symptoms and restored proper vehicle emissions control. Before suggesting specific solutions, could you provide: Build year of your Tiguan, Current mileage, Complete error codes from diagnostics, How long the symptoms have been present, Any recent car maintenance performed This information would help determine if your case matches my experience and whether the pressure sensor is likely the main issue.
