Tiguan Brake Switch Failures Plague VW Owners

Thanks for sharing your experience with the brake system issues. I had nearly identical warnings on my Tiguan about 6 months ago. Did you get an estimate on the total repair cost? My dealer charged 280€ for the complete switch replacement and programming work but prices seem to vary quite a bit. Just wondering if you noticed any other electrical issues popping up since the repair? My car has been running perfectly after they fixed the automotive switch, but I keep hearing stories about related problems showing up later. Keep us posted on your brake light switch repair, it will help others with similar warning messages make a more informed decision about getting it checked out.

Thanks for asking about the repair outcome. Actually, there was no repair cost since it turned out to be user error, not a faulty brake light switch. The mechanic showed me I had accidentally bumped the brake pedal adjustment lever while cleaning the footwell. This caused the switch to misalign and trigger those electrical issue warnings. After properly repositioning the brake pedal and switch assembly, all warning messages cleared instantly. No additional programming or parts replacement needed. The tail light system has worked flawlessly since then, with zero related electrical issues popping up. Pretty relieved it was such a simple fix rather than the complex brake switch replacement others have needed. Always worth having these warning messages checked though, even if it turns out to be something minor, proper brake light operation is critical for safety.

I finally got the brake light switch issue resolved on my Tiguan. After getting those concerning warning messages, I took it to a different mechanic who actually specializes in VW electrical issues. Much better experience this time. The technician did a thorough diagnostic scan and confirmed the faulty brake switch. Total repair took about 2 hours, they replaced the switch, reprogrammed the relevant modules, and tested all connected systems. The brake pedal feels more responsive now and all warning messages have cleared. Final cost was 295€ including parts and labor. Bit more than expected but worth it for the peace of mind. No electrical issues since the repair and the brake lights are working perfectly. Definitely recommend getting these warning signals checked by a qualified shop rather than waiting like I initially did. The car runs great now and I am glad I got it properly diagnosed and fixed. Those persistent warning messages were quite stressful before the repair.

Had the same electrical issue on my 2020 VW Arteon TDI at 95000km. The brake light switch problems started showing identical symptoms, constant brake light warnings and infotainment alerts. The fault initially seemed minor but turned into a serious vehicle safety concern. The faulty switch was causing intermittent tail light operation and sending incorrect signals to various control modules. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Brake light switch replacement, Control module reprogramming, System adaptation This was not a quick fix as the technicians needed to verify all affected systems were communicating properly after the replacement. The brake light switch connects to multiple vehicle systems including cruise control and start-stop functionality. Important: Do not continue driving with these symptoms. A malfunctioning brake light switch can cause the brake lights to stay on permanently or not illuminate when braking. This creates dangerous situations for following traffic. The repair should be handled by a shop with proper diagnostic equipment since multiple systems need checking and potential reprogramming after the switch replacement.
