T-Roc Sunroof Blind Stuck: Common Electric Issue Fix

My T-Roc 2021 has issues with the electric sun blind. It gets stuck in position and wont move anymore. When checking with diagnostics, there are error codes stored. Has anyone experienced something similar with their sun blind? Would be great to hear what the repair involved and what parts needed replacement. Just trying to get an idea of the repair cost and time before heading to the workshop.

Having some experience with VAG cars, I dealt with a similar issue on my T-Cross from 2019. The car interior sun blind system completely failed, showing error codes just like yours. The workshop diagnosed a faulty blind motor actuator. They needed to remove the headliner partially to access the sun blind mechanism. Total repair took about 3 hours and cost 330€, including parts and labor. The car sunshade system worked flawlessly after the repair. The mechanic mentioned these electric sun visor motors can fail due to regular usage or if something blocks the movement path. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: The exact error codes from diagnostics, Whether the sun blind makes any noise when trying to operate, If the issue started gradually or suddenly, If your car still has warranty coverage This information would help determine if your case is similar to what I experienced and whether you might be looking at a comparable repair scope and cost.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My car is still under warranty with 53648km, and I will check with the dealer about coverage first. The sunshade system started making grinding noises about a week ago before completely stopping. The error codes are P0616 and P0617, which seem to indicate motor/circuit issues. The system now makes no sound at all when operated. Looking at the repair cost you mentioned, it seems reasonable if warranty does not cover it. Did your car sunshade system show any early warning signs before failing completely?

Thanks for the additional details. Yes, my T-Cross showed similar warning signs before complete failure. The grinding noise you described matches exactly what I experienced, it is a clear indicator of the sun blind motor starting to fail. The error codes P0616 and P0617 are the same ones my car displayed. These codes typically confirm issues with the sunshade motor circuit, which aligns with the diagnosis I received. Since your car is still under warranty, you are in a much better position than I was. These sunshade repairs are usually covered under the standard warranty period, especially when there are clear error codes present. A few things to note from my experience: The grinding noise lasted about 5 days before total failure, Once the motor died, there was complete silence when pressing controls, The repair included a complete new motor unit, not just individual parts, The workshop also checked the UV protection fabric of the sun blind for damage Good call on checking warranty coverage first. The 330€ I mentioned was without warranty, but you likely wont face this cost. Just ensure you have the error codes documented and the grinding noise mentioned in your service report.

Looking at all the info shared, I have a better picture now. With my car still under warranty and showing the same symptoms and error codes as yours, I will definitely contact the dealer first. The matching behavior, from grinding noise to complete silence, makes me confident it is the same sun blind motor issue you experienced. Knowing the repair involves partial headliner removal and motor replacement helps me understand what to expect at the workshop. Your repair cost of 330€ seems fair for the work involved, but hopefully warranty will cover it in my case. Good to know they check the UV protection fabric during the repair too. I will get it booked in and make sure to document all symptoms and error codes for the service report. Thanks for the detailed insight about your sun visor repair experience. It really helped confirm my suspicions about the motor being the culprit and gave me a clear picture of the repair process.
