Thanks for the detailed suggestions about the sunroof reset procedure. I had my last service at 165087 KM and they did check the fuse, it was fine. The problem started quite suddenly after a heavy rainstorm. When I press the switch there is absolutely no sound, not even clicking. No battery work was done recently. Does this help narrow down whether its likely to be a sunroof calibration issue or possibly water damage to the sunroof system? The complete silence when using the controls makes me wonder if water got into the sunroof mechanism somewhere.

Based on those additional details about your sunroof troubleshooting, especially the timing after a rainstorm, my experience points more toward water damage than just a calibration issue. In my Buick Park Avenue, when water infiltrated the sunroof mechanism, it caused similar total system failure symptoms. The lack of any motor sound suggests potential water damage to either the sunroof motor or its electrical connections. When I had the water damage issue, the repair involved: 1. Drying out the entire sunroof mechanism 2. Replacing corroded electrical connectors 3. Installing new rubber seals around the vehicle sunroof frame 4. Complete sunroof reset and recalibration after repairs The repair was more extensive than just the initialization fix I mentioned earlier, costing around 400 for parts and labor. Important to note, leaving water damage unaddressed can lead to more serious issues with the car sunroof system and potentially interior water damage. I would recommend having a professional inspect the drainage channels and electrical components of your automobile sunroof system. The complete silence from the controls typically indicates an electrical issue rather than just a mechanical or calibration problem.

Thanks for sharing those insights about the water damage possibility. That makes a lot of sense given the timing after the rainstorm. The complete lack of response from the sunroof system does seem to point more toward electrical issues than just needing a recalibration. I think I'll take it to a shop to have them check the sunroof mechanism for water damage and corroded connections. The drainage channels are definitely worth investigating too since this started right after heavy rain. Would rather catch any water-related problems early before they cause more extensive damage to the car sunroof system. The cost estimate of around 400 Euro is helpful to know. While more than I hoped to spend, its better than letting water issues spread to other parts of the automobile sunroof or interior. I'll have them do a full inspection of all the electrical components and seals while they're at it. Thanks again for helping narrow down the likely cause. Really appreciate you sharing your similar experience, saved me from focusing too much on just the calibration possibility when water damage seems to be the more probable culprit.

Having worked on cars as a hobby for several years, I encountered a similar sunroof mechanism issue with my 2001 Buick Park Avenue. The sunroof control system completely stopped responding, showing identical symptoms to what you describe. After some sunroof troubleshooting, I took it to a workshop where they diagnosed it as a coding issue with the sunroof control module. The sunroof operation needed to be recalibrated and reinitialized. The repair involved connecting a diagnostic tool to reprogram the control unit, which resolved the frozen sunroof mechanism. The total cost was around 75 for the coding work. It was a relatively quick fix once they identified the issue. However, before jumping to conclusions: 1. Have you checked the sunroof fuse? 2. Did the problem occur suddenly or gradually? 3. Do you hear any clicking sound when pressing the switch? 4. Has there been any recent battery disconnection or replacement? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if it might be something different with the sunroof mechanism.
