Skoda Yeti heavy steering issue

I've got a bit of a problem with my 2013 Skoda Yeti gasoline engine. It's done about 90901 km. Lately, the steering has become noticeably heavier, almost like the power steering is failing intermittently. Plus, the steering wheel vibrates and shakes at times. I've read online that it might be related to a defective steering angle sensor and possibly faulty coding. Any ideas?

Sounds like a faulty steering angle sensor. The vibrating or shaking steering wheel is a classic symptom. Has the car had any alignment problems recently or a recent wheel alignment? Sometimes that can throw things off. Does the traction control light come on?

The traction control light hasn't come on, but the increased steering effort is definitely noticeable. What do you mean by throw things off? Is it something I could potentially fix myself?

By throw things off, I mean the coding of the steering angle sensor can get corrupted. A bad alignment can sometimes trigger it, though it's more likely the sensor itself is failing. Honestly, without diagnostic tools and the correct software, a sensor replacement and recoding are best left to a workshop. Otherwise you will have alignment problems.

The workshop confirmed the steering angle sensor was faulty. They did a sensor replacement and recoded it for 195€. Steering is back to normal. Thanks for your help.
