Thanks for your reply. The diagnostic trouble code has been read and it indicates a general communication fault within the control unit network. Where would you suggest I start looking for potential sensor issues or wiring problems?

A general communication fault can be tricky. Given the overheating and coolant issues, I suspect a sensor related to the engine cooling system could be sending incorrect data to the control module, causing it to malfunction. However, checking the wiring harness and connections to the engine control unit (ECU) would be a good first step. Given the potential complexity and risk of further damage, I would suggest taking it to a workshop.

I appreciate the input. It turned out to be a wiring issue. The car diagnostics pointed to a defective plug connection on a control module. The repair cost me 95€.

Overheating and coolant loss sound serious. A control unit communication error could definitely be the culprit. Has the diagnostic trouble code been read? It might pinpoint which control unit is having problems. It is also possible that a faulty sensor gives wrong signals to the control module. I would check that.
