Interesting. What fixed it for you? Was it just a camshaft sensor, or something more with the ignition timing?

It was the camshaft sensor. The diagnostic pointed to it right away. But the real problem was the encoder wheel, like you thought. Apparently, it's a common issue. Just changing the sensor might only help for a bit. A workshop visit is probably the best idea.

The workshop visit confirmed the camshaft sensor and encoder wheel were the issue. The repair set me back 695€, but the car is running smoothly now.

That sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my Skoda Superb: rough starts, stalling, and the check engine light. Have you checked the camshaft position sensor?
