Skoda Superb Engine Trouble

I'm having some trouble with my 2009 Skoda Superb with a gasoline engine. It has 111684 km on it. The engine is running unevenly, and the check engine light is on. There's also some jerking when accelerating. I suspect it might be a leak in the exhaust system, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Uneven engine running and a check engine light on a Skoda Superb can be tricky. A leak in the exhaust system is a plausible cause, as it can affect the oxygen sensor readings and lead to engine misfires. Before assuming the worst, have you checked the basics, such as the spark plugs and the air filter? Sometimes, a simple replacement of these components can resolve the issue. I drive a Skoda Octavia and encountered a similar issue a while back. In my case, it was a faulty oxygen sensor causing the misfires. The error code pointed me in that direction. I would recommend getting the exact error code from the error memory read, as that will provide you with the information needed to narrow down the possibilities. You can use an OBD2 scanner for this. Also inspect the ignition coils for any signs of damage.

How did you determine that it was the oxygen sensor? Did you also experience jerking when accelerating? And what error code did you get?

In my case, the OBD2 scanner returned a specific error code related to the oxygen sensor (P0131). Furthermore, the live data from the sensor was erratic, confirming its malfunction. Yes, I experienced jerking during acceleration, especially at lower speeds. Given your symptoms and suspicion of an exhaust leak, it's best to have a professional diagnose it. An exhaust leak can indeed cause misfires and jerking, but pinpointing the exact location can be challenging without proper equipment. I would advise you to take your car to a reliable workshop.

I took it to the shop and they found a leak in the exhaust system, as suspected. They fixed it for 265€, and the engine runs smoothly now. Thanks a lot for your help!
