Skoda Roomster Automatic Transmission Issue

I'm experiencing a rather frustrating issue with my 2012 Skoda Roomster diesel. The automatic transmission seems to be malfunctioning in the parking position. The engine won't start, and the check engine light is illuminated. Furthermore, the gearbox slips and shifts rather uncleanly, and there's an error stored in the memory. I suspect a defective control unit is the reason for all this. Has anyone experienced something similar? I'm bracing myself for a potential 1000€ transmission repair bill.

Sounds like a faulty control unit is a likely culprit. Does the gear shifter feel loose when you try to put it in park? Sometimes, a bad sensor can cause the same symptoms. Have you checked the transmission fluid level? Low fluid can cause slipping.

The gear shifter doesn't feel particularly loose, but it's not as firm as it used to be. As for transmission fluid, where exactly would I check that on a 2012 Skoda Roomster with an automatic transmission?

It does sound like the control unit. Thinking about it, it's like a computer having a meltdown – all sorts of weird things start happening. Checking the fluid level might help rule out simple issues, but with all those symptoms, especially the error code, I'd say a visit to a workshop for a proper diagnosis is your best bet. They'll be able to pinpoint the exact cause and give you a more accurate estimate for the transmission failure.

Thank you for the helpful information. It seems you are right, I took the car to a local workshop, and they confirmed the control unit is defective, just as you suspected. The transmission repair will cost me around 1000€. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but at least now I know what needs to be done.
