Skoda Rapid diesel preheating lamp issue

My 2012 Skoda Rapid diesel is acting up. The preheating lamp won't switch off, and the engine light is now on. Plus, it's smoking when I accelerate! I suspect it's the glow control unit, maybe a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced this?

That sounds familiar. I also have a Skoda Rapid and once had a similar issue with the preheating lamp and the engine light. Did you run a diagnostic test? Could be a faulty glow plug, leading to engine misfire and triggering the engine light. I'm not sure though, just guessing.

A faulty glow plug, you say? Was the engine light constantly on in your case? Did you also notice any smoke when accelerating?

Yes, the engine light was constantly on. And yes, I also noticed some smoke, especially when starting the engine. But I'm really not sure if it's the same problem. You should probably have a diagnostic test done to confirm the issue. Better safe than sorry. Consider taking it to a workshop.

I had the cable and plug connection checked, and that was indeed the problem. 95€ later, the Rapid is running smoothly again!
