Skoda Rapid automatic transmission shifting issues

I am writing regarding a perplexing issue with my 2018 Skoda Rapid diesel, with 185933 km on the clock. Lately, I have observed implausible shifting behavior from the automatic transmission, and the transmission indicator light illuminates intermittently. Furthermore, the automatic transmission is not shifting as usual, and at times, it seems to be operating in emergency mode. Could this be indicative of worn-out transmission oil, leading to a slipping transmission? Or could there be other underlying issues affecting the car transmission? I am considering a transmission flush, but I am hesitant to proceed without further investigation. My mechanic suspects that undervoltage in the vehicle's system may be the cause. What are your thoughts on this matter?

That sounds very frustrating! I experienced similar issues with my older Opel Astra a few years back. Slipping transmission, the car jerking during shifts… It was a nightmare. Is it possible the transmission oil level is low? When was the last time you had a transmission flush performed? Maybe a simple check could rule out the obvious before you start tearing things apart.

Thank you for the quick response. I am curious about the Opel Astra you mentioned. Did the transmission indicator light also illuminate on your dashboard? And what actions did you undertake to resolve the shifting problems and the slipping transmission? Did you simply perform a transmission flush?

Yes, the transmission indicator light was constantly on! It turned out that the transmission oil was indeed the culprit, and I did have a transmission flush performed. However, the underlying issue, like in your case, was electrical. The mechanic found a faulty sensor causing the undervoltage, which then messed with the transmission's shifting. It is best to take your car to a workshop for a diagnostic check. They will be able to pinpoint the exact cause.

I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for your input. As suspected, the issue was indeed linked to undervoltage affecting the automatic transmission. The repair involved addressing the electrical problem and performing a transmission oil flush, costing 240€. The Skoda Rapid is now shifting smoothly. I appreciate your assistance in diagnosing the problem!
