Skoda Praktik Oxygen Sensor Issue

My 2008 Skoda Praktik with a gasoline engine is showing an oxygen sensor heater failure. Mileage is low, 24135 km. The check engine light is on, and I'm getting higher fuel consumption. Error memory points to the O2 sensor. Could a defective cable or plug connection be the cause?

O2 sensor heater failure, huh? Seen that before on a few Skodas. The increased fuel consumption and malfunction indicator light are classic signs. Before replacing the sensor, definitely check the wiring and connector. A faulty connection can cause the same symptoms and save you some money.

Thanks. When you say check the wiring, what am I specifically looking for? Is there a common spot where the cable usually fails?

Yeah, the connections on those are known to corrode, messing with the air-fuel ratio and vehicle emissions. If wiggling the connector doesn't do anything, get it to a workshop and have them check the exhaust system's wiring harness back to the ECU. Better safe than sorry when it comes to vehicle emissions.

Right, will do that. Thanks for confirming it's likely the connection. I'll report back after the repair. Cost me 95€ in the end.
