Skoda Praktik Diesel Issues Preheating Lamp and Smoke

My 2007 Skoda Praktik diesel is throwing up some weirdness. The preheating lamp refuses to switch off, the check engine light is on, and it's blowing smoke when I accelerate. I'm suspecting a defective glow control unit, possibly a cable or plug issue. Anyone seen this before?

Whoa, that sounds rough! A preheating lamp that won't switch off, engine light, and smoke? Has the engine been misfiring at all? Maybe check the heating element too? It's worth a look before things get worse.

Engine misfire hasn't been an issue yet. Though I have noticed some vehicle stalling a couple of times. Could a dodgy cable/plug really cause all these symptoms? What should I be looking for when I check the heating element?

A faulty cable/plug on the glow control unit can definitely cause those symptoms. If the heating element is visibly damaged, that could be contributing. Given the engine light and smoke, though, it might be worth getting a proper diagnostic test at a workshop. They'll pinpoint the exact issue.

Thanks for your input! It was a defective cable/plug connection on the glow control unit, as suspected. A diagnostic test confirmed it. Cost 95€ to get it sorted. Runs like a charm again!
