Skoda Praktik automatic transmission issue

My 2009 Skoda Praktik with a gasoline engine is giving me a proper headache. Mileage is around 71000 km. Basically, the parking position on the automatic transmission is buggered. The engine won't start when it's in park, the check engine light is shining bright, and the gearbox feels like it's shifting all kinds of wrong. Plus, there's an error code stored in the memory. I've read online it could be a defective control unit. Anyone else had this? I’m afraid it could be a transmission failure!

Whoa, sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my Praktik, though it wasn't exactly the same. Check engine light was on, and the gearbox felt like it was having a party of its own. Slipping gears all over the place. Did you notice any difference when you put it in neutral position?

Yeah, the gearbox slipping is a nightmare! Regarding the neutral position, I didn't pay too much attention. Was there anything specific you experienced in neutral? Does it have something to do with the gear linkage?

Yep, mine was acting up in neutral too. Almost like it wasn't fully disengaged. Honestly, with all those symptoms – engine light, dodgy shifting, and the parking issue – it really does sound like the control unit. I wouldn't mess with the gear linkage yourself, it could make things worse. Best bet is to get it to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly and tell you for sure.

Thanks a lot! You were spot on. Took it to a local garage, and they confirmed it's the auto transmission control unit. Quoted around 1000€ to fix it. Ouch! But at least I know what's wrong. They are quoting the repair including the control unit and labor. So I guess that’s the end of my parking position problems...Hopefully!
