Skoda Octavia Gearbox Issues

My '03 Skoda Octavia, diesel engine, is giving me grief. The gearbox feels like it's slipping and the shifts are definitely unclean. I'm suspecting transfer case oil wear. Could this be defective gears in the transfer case maybe? I've checked the basics, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Any ideas?

I had a similar issue with my Skoda Octavia (don't remember the exact year). Gearbox acting up, slipping gears. First thing I'd check is the gear oil. Is there any oil leakage visible? Low oil level could cause those symptoms, and with that mileage, an oil change might be overdue anyway. Have you noticed any unusual noises?

Cheers for the quick reply! No visible oil leakage that I can see. It's more like the shifts aren't clean, a bit clunky, especially going into third. How did you pinpoint the transfer case as the culprit? Was it making any specific sounds, or was it just the way it was shifting?

Yeah, the clunky shifting sounds familiar. For me, it eventually became more pronounced. I did the oil change, seemed better for a day or two, then the problem came back. It ended up being gear wear inside the transfer case itself. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop. They can give you a proper diagnosis. Good luck!

Took it to the workshop as you suggested. They confirmed it was the transfer case gears, just like you said! Cost me about 330€ to get it sorted, but it's running smooth now. Thanks a bunch for your help!
