Skoda Octavia Diesel EGR Valve Concerns

My 2023 Skoda Octavia diesel is exhibiting symptoms of a defective EGR valve. I'm experiencing reduced engine power, the check engine light is on, smoke appears during acceleration, engine runs rough, fuel consumption is elevated, the car jerks during acceleration, and there's a loud hissing sound when accelerating. Thoughts?

Reduced engine power, check engine light, smoke, rough running, increased fuel consumption, jerking, hissing – all point to a malfunctioning EGR valve. Has the vehicle failed an emissions test?

EGR valve – got it. Regarding emissions test, not yet. But will a defective EGR valve impact vehicle emissions? Is it likely that I will fail the emissions test because of it?

Yes, a defective EGR valve will almost certainly lead to a failure on your vehicle emissions. The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve is designed to reduce NOx (nitrogen oxides) emissions. A malfunctioning or jammed EGR valve will disrupt this process, leading to increased NOx output and a likely failure during the emissions test. It may be best to take it into the workshop.

Confirmed EGR valve issue. Repair cost was 355€. Much obliged for the insight.
