Skoda Octavia brake fluid issue

My 2010 Skoda Octavia diesel has a weird issue. The brake fluid level warning light came on. I checked the reservoir, and it's definitely low. The brake pedal also feels strange, kinda soft and gives me a weird feedback. I'm guessing worn brakes, but is there anything else I should check in the brake system?

Low brake fluid and spongy pedal I had something similar with my Octavia. I'd check your brake lines for leaks, though it could also just be worn pads. When were the brake pads last changed?

Brake lines seem okay, no visible leaks. Pads were changed maybe 60000 km ago. Is it possible for worn pads to cause a significant drop in brake fluid? I thought the reservoir was sealed.

As the pads wear down, the pistons in the calipers have to extend further, which uses more brake fluid from the reservoir. It might not be a leak, just normal wear and tear. Still, I'd get the car brakes checked properly. A brake system failure isn't something you want to risk. Maybe a fluid replacement is due as well.

I took it to a workshop. It was worn brakes like I thought, but the brake fluid was also genuinely low. I got the brakes replaced and a brake fluid change, it cost me 480€. The car's running fine now.
