Skoda Octavia Automatic Transmission Problem

I have a vexing issue concerning my 2017 Skoda Octavia with a gasoline engine and 201160 km. The automatic transmission's parking position is defective. The engine won't start, the check engine light is on, the gearbox is slipping with unclean shifts, and error memory stores faults. A defective control unit seems likely. The shift lock mechanism isn't engaging the park brake. Any insights are appreciated before I commit to an expensive repair, estimated at 1000€.

Sounds like a pain. I had similar symptoms on my old BMW after a software installation messed up the TCM. Check engine light, weird shifting, and it wouldn't always engage Park. Have you scanned for OBDII codes?

Interesting. You mentioned a TCM issue on your BMW. Could you elaborate on the specific error codes you encountered? I'm getting a P1734 fault code; does that align with your experience?

The BMW threw a bunch of CAN bus errors related to the TCM and gear selector position. P1734 sounds like a plausibility error with the gear selector. If the basics like battery voltage and connections are good, you're likely looking at a faulty mechatronic unit within the transmission. I ended up having the dealer reflash the TCM, which fixed it temporarily, but it ultimately needed replacement. Time for a workshop visit.

Diagnostics confirmed the defective control unit. The automatic transmission was the culprit, costing me 1000€. The shift lock is now working.
