Skoda Karoq AC Failure

My 2018 Skoda Karoq with a diesel engine has developed a fault. The AC no longer cools. The air conditioning system does not switch on, and a warning light is illuminated in the speedometer. The error memory shows a refrigerant compressor failure. I suspect the air conditioning control unit is defective. Any thoughts?

I have a Karoq as well, although I am not sure about the year. I experienced similar AC unit issues last summer. The symptoms you describe align with a potential failure in the air conditioning control unit. Have you checked the refrigerant pressure? A low refrigerant level can sometimes trigger similar errors and prevent the compressor from engaging. It's a simpler check before delving into control unit diagnostics.

Refrigerant pressure was fine. The error memory points directly to the control unit. You mentioned similar issues. Was it definitely the control unit in your case?

Yes, it was definitely the control unit. The diagnostic report explicitly pointed to it. Given that your error memory indicates a compressor fault and you've already verified the refrigerant pressure, it is highly probable that the control unit is the culprit. I suggest visiting a workshop for a proper diagnosis and potential replacement of the unit. It is a specialised task, requiring specific tools and expertise in car air conditioning systems. Auto AC repair is sometimes best left to the professionals.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. The workshop confirmed the AC control unit was faulty. Cost 980€ to get it fixed. Automotive cooling is working again.
