Skoda Fabia Diesel Engine Jerking

I am experiencing issues with my 2008 Skoda Fabia, diesel engine, with approximately 31910 km. The engine jerks when accelerating, and an error is stored in the error memory. The check engine light is illuminated, and the engine power is reduced. Furthermore, the engine occasionally stalls at idle, exhibiting rough running and a strong exhaust smell. I suspect a defective intake manifold. Could a leaking intake manifold due to scorching cause these symptoms?

That sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Corsa. The check engine light kept coming on, and it felt like the engine was misfiring. Did you check for any obvious air intake leaks around the car manifold?

I appreciate the insight. Where exactly on the air intake did you find the leaks on your car manifold? Was it visibly cracked, or did you use a specific method to detect the gasket leak?

On my Corsa, it was hard to see the leak directly, but the mechanic found it near where the car manifold connects to the engine block. They suspected a gasket leak. Given your symptoms, and the stored error, it is best to have a professional inspect the air intake system. They can perform a smoke test to pinpoint any leaks precisely. It sounds like it could be more than a simple fix.

Thank you for the information. I took the car to the workshop, and they confirmed the intake manifold was defective due to scorching, leading to a gasket leak. The total repair cost came to 1180€. The car runs smoothly now.
