Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting ABS/DSC System and Power Steering Issues in 2005 Lexus IS Diesel

Hey! I've got a 2005 Lexus IS diesel that's been acting up lately. My ABS/DSC system has gone haywire and power steering has quit on me. On top of that, I'm dealing with a steering wheel that shakes like a leaf. I suspect the steering angle sensor could be the troublemaker here. Anybody else had a similar experience and got it sorted out at the workshop? Would appreciate any tips or insights on how to tackle this issue. Cheers.

Hey there! I reckon I had a similar glitch with my 2000 Lexus GS petrol a while back. My car knowledge is just some experience, mostly figuring stuff out along the way. Had the same shaky wheel situation, turned out it was the steering angle sensor not rightly coded. Hauled it to my local workshop, they re-coded the sensor, didn't put much of a dent in my wallet, just about 195 Euro. It's been smooth sailing since then. Might you know if there have been any recent changes or mods to your car? That could help us get a better grasp on what's going on. Good luck!

Thanks for the response! I haven't had any recent mods, just the typical upkeep. She's done 97518 KM now, last service was not long ago, and didn't get a whisper about any issues with the ABS/DSC or steering system, so it's a bit puzzling. But your experience gives me some relief, I'll look into getting that sensor checked and re-coded. Cheers for the tip - hopefully, it won't dig too deep into my pockets either!

Ah, the old steady and reliable 2002 Lexus, eh? Rugged as they come but can throw a curveball or two. No worries, seems like we're in the same boat. Trust me, the relief when the fix isn't a full-blown bank buster, worth every bit. Given the lack of recent mods and decent upkeep, I'd second my initial hunch about the steering angle sensor. If it's not reading correctly, those ABS/DSC, power steering, and vibrating wheel symptoms can all queue up like cheeky monkeys. Take it to a decent workshop, have them diagnose and if required, just re-code the thing. In my experience, it wasn't a major hit. More often than not, it's the small things, not the big-ticket items that act up. Anyway keep your chin up. Reckon it'll be running smooth again soon. Drop us an update after the workshop, yeah? You never know who else’ll find it useful. Keep earning those kilometers, 100,000’s just around the bend! Best of luck!

You're a lifesaver! I'm confident now that it's the steering angle sensor. I'll get the old girl to a local workshop this week to have her properly diagnosed and hopefully, it'll be the sensor misbehaving. Fingers crossed it's not a bank buster. I'll definitely give you an update post-workshop. Who knows, the info might just help someone else out. Eager to see that 100,000 KM mark soon. Appreciate the help and the well-wishes. Cheers!
