Seeking Advice on Dacia Sandero Exhaust and Engine Issues: Suspected Exhaust Gas Recirculation Problem

Hey, got a bit of a problem with my 2008 Dacia Sandero running on Gasoline. Been noticing black smoke pouring out of the exhaust when I accelerate and the check engine light's firmly on. There's also a drop in power in the engine, along with a loud hissing when I step on the gas. Not to mention, the exhaust's stinking more than usual. Another thing, my DPF ain't regenerating as it should. I'm starting to suspect something up with the exhaust gas recirculation, but I'd love to hear your insights or similar experiences for a better understanding of the issue. Any tips or advice on how I might fix it or how you got it sorted out at your local garage would be really appreciated. Cheers!

Hey there! Had a similar mishap with my 2006 Dacia Logan running on Gasoline, just a bit older than yours. Let's put it this way, I'm no expert - my car knowledge is a bit low - but I have got a knack for troubleshooting! Took the Logan to my old trusted mechanic. After a good looking over, turns out there were damaged cables on the electric changeover valve. Sounded Greek to me, but mechanic seems confident that was causing all the problems. Fix included replacing the cables and resetting the valve. Cost me 155€ for the parts and the runaround. After that, my Logan was running smoother than it had in a long while. No more black smoke or weird hissing and the DPF kicked back into the regen process like clockwork. Just curious, have you had any work done recently on your car? Also, gotta ask, is your Sandero a Diesel or a Petrol model? Maybe some more specific info could help me give more tailored advice. Catch you later!

Hey there! First off, I just hit a mileage of 32645 KM, done since the last service. Haven't had any recent work done on it, except for the usual maintenance. It's a gasoline model, by the way. Not sure about the electric changeover valve, but if it worked for your Logan, it seems worth checking out for my Sandero. I might drop by my mechanic and see what's up. Cheers for the heads up. Your detailed experience has been really helpful! Will let you know how it goes.

Hello again! I'm glad you found my experience helpful. With the mileage you're clocking, it's not surprising a few issues would start appearing in your Dacia. My Logan had similar mileage too when it started acting up. Your symptoms pointed me towards the electric changeover valve in my previous post as it's one of the common causes. Anyway, since it's a gasoline model, you might want to also check the fuel injectors and spark plugs. Rough idling, drop in power, foul exhaust smell, or black exhaust smoke can happen due to these components acting up. Given that you started experiencing these issues without any recent major repair work from what you've told me, I'd suggest a thorough check on all these components. As always, better safe than sorry, you know? So, let your mechanic do his thing and keep us updated on how it turns out. Your experience might turn out to be a learning curve for another member (and me too). Best of luck!

Brilliant! Your advice hits the nail on the head and gives me a good starting point. I'll definitely mention the fuel injectors and spark plugs to my mechanic along with the electric changeover valve. You're absolutely right; it's best to let him give it a good check. Thanks for chipping in. This has been really enlightening and I'm sure we all can learn a bit from my situation. I'll drop an update as soon as I get it sorted out. Peace out!
