Seeking Advice on 2012 Volvo V50: Engine Issues and Mysterious Warning Light

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a rather strange issue with my diesel-powered 2012 Volvo V50. It refuses to fire up, and occasionally, the engine would turn off on its own. To top it off, there's a mysterious warning light in my speedometer. I'm suspecting that the water sensor could be acting up. Has anyone out there experienced something similar? How did the workshop rectify it? I'm eager to hear your stories and suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I get ya, had a similar issue with my 2010 Volvo V70, quite the headache. Not a car guru, but I do have some knowledge under my belt. Turned out it was the sensor cable connection messing up. A trip to my local workshop sorted things out, cost me about 365 Euro. They found and fixed the defective connection. By the way, can you share a bit more about your V50? Like its mileage, last service date, etc. Might help me or others give you a bit more exact advice. Cheers!

Appreciate your quick response! That's some helpful insight. My V50's clocked about 43163 KM and the last service was just three months ago. Hoping it's just a minor sensor issue. I'll surely get the cable connections checked at the local workshop. Thanks for your suggestion!

You're welcome! No worries at all. Your V50 has still got quite low mileage for a 2012 model, so it's a good sign. You've also serviced it recently, which adds to my hunch that it might just be a sensor or cable connection issue like I experienced with my own V70. Remember though, I'm just sharing my experience, there could be multiple reasons causing the symptoms you're seeing. It's always best to have it checked out by the pros. Sometimes, a faulty engine control unit may also lead to your car suddenly shutting off, but seeing the recent service, it might not be the case. Either way, share the finding here once you've got it checked out. We're all here to help each other out. Cheers!

Absolutely! Your experience and advice are invaluable- glad to hear we have a supportive community here. I'm already making an appointment with my local workshop. And you're totally right, nothing can replace the expertise of a professional. Let's hope it's only a sensor or cable connection. I'll make sure to come back with an update once the issue is identified and sorted. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated! Cheers!
