S4 Massage Seat Function Dead, Switch/Motor Issue

Looking for advice on my massage seat problems in my 2019 S4 (87k km). The massage function stopped working completely and my scan tool shows an error code. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their massage chair controls? The electrical issue seems to be with the seat motor or switch, but after a bad experience with my last mechanic, I want to know what to expect before taking it in for repairs. Any tips on reliable fixes or rough cost estimates for the car upholstery and control unit repairs would be helpful.

Had a similar massage seat malfunction in my 2016 Audi A4. The automotive seats completely lost their massage function and the seat switch stopped responding. The problem turned out to be a damaged wiring harness where the cables connect to the seat control module. The constant movement of the seat adjustment eventually wore through the protective covering, causing an electrical issue with the connections. The repair required: Removing the seat upholstery, Replacing the entire wire harness assembly, Installing a new massage control unit, Reprogramming the seat module This was a serious repair that took about 4-5 hours of labor. The massage chair functionality needed specialized diagnostic equipment to properly reset and calibrate after the repair. A key tip: make sure the shop has experience with luxury car seat electronics. The massage seat systems are complex and require specific knowledge to properly diagnose and repair. Getting the control module coding wrong can lead to more issues down the line. Consider having them check all seat functions while they have it apart, as these components often fail around similar mileage points.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Audi seat repair. The steps you described match what my mechanic mentioned might be needed. Mine is also showing those wiring connection issues. If you dont mind, what did the full repair end up costing? Curious if prices have changed much since your fix. Also wondering if youve had any other automotive seats issues pop up afterwards with the massage function?

Got my S4 back from the mechanic last week and wanted to update. My massage seat issue was much simpler than expected, just a loose cable connection to the control module. Total repair was 95 Euro, which included diagnosing and fixing the faulty plug connection. The massage setting works perfectly now, way better than I expected. The seat switch responds immediately and all massage functions are back to normal. Much cheaper than the full harness replacement I initially feared would be needed. No issues with the luxury car seat functions since the repair. The mechanic mentioned these connection problems are fairly common in the massage seat systems due to the constant movement, but once properly secured they typically stay fixed. For anyone else facing similar problems, worth getting it checked out early before any potential wiring damage spreads through the car upholstery. Could save significant repair costs in the long run.

Thanks everyone for your help. Finally got my car back from the shop yesterday. The electrical issue was indeed the wiring harness, which had completely worn through in two spots. Total repair came to 780 Euro including parts and labor. The mechanic I found specializes in luxury car electronics and did a thorough job. They showed me the damaged car upholstery and wiring before starting repairs. Really appreciated the transparency after my previous bad experience. The automotive seats are working perfectly now, all massage functions and the seat switch respond like new. They also noticed and fixed a small tear in the side bolster while they had it apart, which was a nice bonus. Going to keep an eye on the wiring bundle movement to catch any early signs of wear. Much better experience this time around with a specialist who knew these systems well.
