Problems with sat nav and sound system in the BMW 3 Series 2001: Possible antenna faults and workshop solutions

Audio system is not working

Navigationssystem is not working

Hello community, I have a problem with my BMW 3 Series, built in 2001, diesel. Recently, both the navigation system and the sound system have been acting up. I suspect that it could be the aerial. Has anyone ever had a similar problem and could tell me how it was fixed in the workshop? What experiences have you had? Thanks in advance for your tips and advice!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my BMW 5 Series, built in 1999, which is the big brother of your car. I am not an expert on cars, but I have had some experience with repairs and so on. In my case, the telecommunications control unit was the problem. The repair in the workshop cost about 765 euros. Maybe that will help you. Can you confirm that all the other functions are working properly? What about the radio reception? Perhaps I can then help in more detail.

Thanks for your quick reply! The radio reception is really poor, it keeps cutting out. Otherwise everything works quite well, so at least the car still runs smoothly despite the 238592 km I have on it! I had my last service about two months ago and everything was still OK with the sound system and sat nav. Your assumption about the telecommunications control unit sounds pretty logical. I'll have to ask the garage. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! I'm glad that I can help with my experience. Your problem with the radio reception actually indicates that something could be wrong with the aerial. But it could also be due to the wiring. So, if I were you, I would definitely go to the garage and have a precise diagnosis made. It's always good to know such things. Now to the telecommunications control unit. It was simply defective in my 5 Series. And if the part no longer works properly, it can affect the navigation system and the sound system. That's how the workshop technician explained it to me. The repair costs weren't exactly cheap, but since then everything has been working perfectly again. So if you think this could be the problem, it would probably be a good idea to have it checked. I hope I've been able to help you and wish you every success!

Hey, thanks again for the detailed answer. I guess you're right that an accurate diagnosis makes sense. Even if I'm not particularly looking forward to a possible bill... But well, safety first. And if it really is the telecommunications control unit, then it will just have to be repaired. Your statement gives me a good indication of what I can address in the workshop. Well then, thanks again and have a nice day!

Got that error, what strange that it doesn’t show on insta+ or inpa only on Carly. Also it is not critical error so I don’t think it should be mark as red.

Did anything come out of your workshop visit? I would be delighted if you could share your experiences with us.
