Problems with Opel Combo 2012: Engine problems, excessive fuel consumption and black exhaust smoke

Hello folks! I've recently started having problems with my Opel Combo, built in 2012, gasoline engine. The car shakes, no longer pulls properly and the engine often just stalls. When accelerating, the exhaust smokes black and the fuel consumption is also high. The check engine light is on and the exhaust smells extremely bad. I think it could be due to the fuel level sensor. Have any of you had similar problems? How did you solve this in the workshop? Any experience and tips are welcome!

Hi, I'm not a master mechanic, but I do have some experience. I had a similar problem with my 2010 Opel Zafira. It sounds a lot like problems with the wiring harness/plug. In the end, the wiring harness on my Zafira was defective and had to be replaced. The whole thing cost me around 95 euros at my garage. Could you give more details about your vehicle? Is the Combo standard or has it been modified? That could help to narrow down the problem more precisely. Good luck with the repair!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! My combo is actually completely stock, no modifications. The mileage is 195535 km and the last service was almost exactly 5000 km ago. I'll take your advice to heart and have the wiring harness taken care of. Hopefully that's the solution!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! With such a high mileage and your symptoms, the wiring harness could really be to blame, as it is known to sometimes cause problems at Opel. But other things can also play a role. The EGR valve could also be clogged or the mass air flow sensor could be faulty. These can also lead to such symptoms. It's best to go to a specialist and have this checked. If you're lucky, a thorough check and a good cleaning may solve the problem without having to replace expensive parts. Keep both fingers crossed that it's nothing serious! Let's hear what comes out of it!

Great, thanks for your valuable tips! I will definitely visit a specialist and have the things you mentioned checked. I want to keep the repair costs as low as possible, so I hope that a thorough cleaning will be enough. I'll keep you up to date. See you then and thanks again!
