Problems with gearshift and warning light in Opel Tigra 2005 - experiences and solutions wanted

Hey guys, I have a problem with my Opel Tigra (gasoline engine, year 2005). The gearshift is acting up and a warning light is illuminated in the speedometer. I suspect that the automatic transmission parking position switch might be broken. Have any of you ever had a similar problem and can you possibly give me a few tips on troubleshooting? How did you finally get it solved in the workshop and what were your experiences? Any help is welcome!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Opel Corsa (built in 2007). I only have a little car knowledge, so I'm not an expert. But in my case, the transmission control unit was broken. The repair in the workshop cost me 1000.0 euros, but after that everything was back to normal. To give you specific advice, it would be helpful if you could give us more information about your car. Exactly which model do you have and what has the garage done so far? I might be able to help you better with that. Good luck with the repair!

Hey, thanks for your advice! My Tigra has now clocked up 88131 kilometers. Unfortunately, the garage hasn't done anything yet because I didn't know exactly what the problem could be and wanted to ask you first. I'll definitely try the transmission control unit and get a quote from a garage. It's really weird that it can be so expensive. Hopefully I won't get the same bill! Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! Especially with such a tricky issue, I'm glad I was able to help you a bit. It's really stupid when the transmission makes such a fuss, I know that too well. Regarding the transmission control unit: To be honest, the bill was a nasty surprise for me too, but at least everything was fine afterwards. Maybe you're lucky and it's something else that costs less... But to be on the safe side, you should probably put some money aside. It's hard to tell with the information you've given. Mine had similar symptoms and it was the transmission control unit, but it could be something else with your Tigra. I hope it's nothing too expensive for you though! Please keep us posted and good luck with the repair!

Hey, that's really helpful! You see, that's exactly why I posted my problem here. I saw the term 'transmission control unit' for the first time, but now I'm doing some research and discussing it with the garage. I really hope it's something that costs less. But as they say, 'hope is the last cry of the desperate'. Well, I've already put a few euros aside, just to be on the safe side. When it's all over, I'll be sure to share my experiences here. Thanks for your support and wishes.
