Phaeton Diesel Stalling: Bad Coils vs Injector Issues

Thanks for sharing that experience with the Touareg. Really helpful to know about the wiring harness being the culprit. I ended up getting my Phaeton checked at a diesel specialist and turns out my fuel injector was completely clogged, causing the stalling and rough running. Pretty relieved it wasnt something more serious with the engine. Did you remember roughly what the repair cost was for your harness replacement? Also wondering if youve had any related issues pop up since the fix? My mechanic mentioned I should probably do a fuel system cleaning every 30000km to prevent this from happening again.

Following up on my Touareg experience, glad to hear you got the clogged injector diagnosed and fixed. The wiring harness repair on my vehicle ended up being much simpler than initially expected. The mechanic found a defective ignition coil connection that was causing the engine hesitation and stalling problems. Total cost was 95€ for fixing the cable connection. Since the repair, the engine has been running smoothly with no check engine light issues. The initial symptoms completely disappeared after addressing the faulty connection. Your mechanics suggestion about regular fuel system maintenance is spot on. Following a proper cleaning schedule helps prevent injector clogging and maintains optimal engine performance. This whole experience really showed how important it is to get a proper diagnosis. While we both had similar symptoms of engine stalling and rough running, the root causes were different, yours being a clogged injector and mine a coil failure in the electrical system. Regular maintenance definitely helps catch these issues before they become major problems.

Got great news to report back. After getting a second opinion from a diesel specialist, they found the actual problem, a completely clogged fuel injector. The repair was straightforward once properly diagnosed. Cost me 420€ including parts and labor, plus they did a full fuel system cleaning. The car runs perfectly smooth now, no more stalling, rough idle or jerking during acceleration. They also showed me the gunked up injector which explained all the symptoms. Really glad I decided to get it checked by a specialist rather than going back to my regular shop. Going to stick to their recommended maintenance schedule of fuel system cleaning every 30000km to avoid this happening again. Much better than dealing with unusual stalling and engine problems. Definitely learned my lesson about regular diesel maintenance on these engines.

Had similar symptoms with a 2012 VW Touareg TDI. The engine hesitation and rough idle pointed to a failing fuel injector connection. Vehicle diagnostics revealed the wiring harness had deteriorated where it connected to the injector, causing intermittent signals. The repair involved replacing the wiring harness and checking all injector connections. This was a serious issue since faulty injector signals can lead to poor fuel delivery, misfire conditions, and potential engine damage if left unchecked. Your symptoms match what I experienced, unusual jerking during acceleration is classic for injector or fuel delivery issues in diesel engines. The check engine light typically indicates the ECU has detected irregular fuel injection patterns. Given the age and mileage of your Phaeton, its worth having a proper diagnostic scan done focusing on the fuel injection system. A competent diesel specialist should check: Injector wiring connections, Fuel pressure, Injection timing, Wiring harness condition This isnt a typical ignition coil issue since diesel engines dont use spark plugs or ignition coils. The problem likely lies in the fuel delivery or injection system.
