Peugeot 407 petrol engine (2005): Problems with smoke development, engine performance and increased fuel consumption

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my 2005 Peugeot 407 petrol engine. When accelerating, there is black smoke from the exhaust, the check engine light comes on, the engine just stops, sometimes it even loses power. When accelerating, the car jerks, fuel consumption is very high and there is often a strong smell of exhaust fumes. The engine sometimes stalls when idling. I have it in my head that it could possibly be due to the fuel injection pressure. Do you have any tips or experience of how you have dealt with this situation at the mechanic? Hi, I had a very similar problem with my Peugeot 407, diesel, built in 2003. I would classify my knowledge of cars as poor, so I always rely on a reliable garage. In my case, an error entry was found after changing the fuel filter. This was the cause of the problems you described. My garage fixed the problem and charged 45 euros for it. Can you give me some more information about your car? What is the mileage? Has the fuel filter been changed recently? This could help to identify the problem more precisely.
