Overheating and Coolant Consumption Issues in 2021 Kia Seltos: Possible Radiator Shutter Malfunction

Hey everyone, I'm grappling with an odd issue on my 2021 Kia Seltos with a Gasoline engine. It's started overheating and guzzling coolant like crazy. I've got a hunch that the radiator shutter might not be performing right but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced the same issue. Can you share your experiences and how you managed to fix this? Any tips or advice on troubleshooting would be super appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 Kia Sportage. Not an expert, just someone with a bit of car experience. Turned out, it wasn't the radiator shutter, but a defective, corroded wiring harness to a sensor. Cost me €155 to get it fixed at my local workshop, but at least the overheating and excessive coolant use stopped. Might be worthwhile for you to check the wiring and sensors. Of course, this is just based on my own experience. Could you possibly provide more specifics on your Seltos? Engine size, mileage, etc? That might help me provide more accurate advice. Good luck!

Hey! Appreciate your helpful response. My Seltos has got around 69,885KM on it. Latest service was about two months ago. The engine's a 1.6-liter gasoline one. Considering your advice, I'll definitely check the wiring and sensors - hadn't really thought it could be that. Thanks again for your input!

No worries at all! Given the mileage and recent service, it's a bit of a puzzler that you're seeing this issue on a fairly new Seltos like yours. But cars can sometimes throw us a curveball, right? Still, considering your engine's specifics, I'd also suggest you take a detailed look at the coolant pump. For a 1.6-liter engine, if your car is having excessive coolant consumption, sometimes the pump could be the issue too. It might be working harder than it's supposed to, or maybe it's got a small leak. Either way, it could be worth getting the pump checked at a service centre. But yeah, definitely follow through on that sensor and wiring harness check too. And one more thing - my with a Seltos had an issue with a cracked reservoir. That also led to his car losing coolant faster than normal. Hope you find the culprit soon! All the best with it!

Hey, thanks a bunch for the advice! Cracked reservoir, eh? Never would have thought about that, I'll get the lads at my service centre to check it out. And I got what you said about the coolant pump. Seems like I've got a couple of different things to look into now. Anyway, really appreciate your time and expertise. Fingers crossed we find the issue soon. Cheers!
